MEKANIKA REKAYASA II
Engineering Mechanics

• Engineering mechanics is the main field of science for the

behavior of structures, or machines for the load acting on
them.
• The behavior of these structures is generally deflection
and forces (reaction forces and internal forces).

Introduction
Truss

• A construction composed of members connected to each other to

resist external forces together.
• Two existing styles are axial forces namely tensile forces or
compressive forces.
Truss
Types of trusses
1. Single truss construction

• If each member or each triangle has a level of arrangement

• The construction consists of one equal unit (equivalent).
Types of trusses
2. Dual truss construction

• If each member or each constituent triangle is at the same

level.
• However, the construction consists of two equivalent
construction units.
Types of trusses
3. Arranged truss construction

• If the construction of the members or triangular position of the

structure is different, consists of the construction of the main and
supporting construction.
• ABC triangle is the main construction triangle, while ADE triangle is a
supporting construction triangle.
Why truss triangle?

1. Because the shape of a triangle is the most integrated form than

others.
2. Changes in place due to the outer force being smaller in the
triangle compared to the other shapes.
3. Triangle is the most stable form (static).
4. Does not cause stress in the member even though there is a
measurement error in its implementation.
Balance of truss construction
A truss construction can be of a certain static or uncertain static, which
can be determined by a formula:

S = number of members
S = 2K – 3 K = Number of gusset points

If:
• S> or = 2K - 3, is an
uncertain static truss.
• S <2K - 3, a certain static
truss.
Balance of truss construction

Is this truss a certain or uncertain static?
