Executive Summary:
Pickaboo is an online leading E-commerce business based in Bangladesh. The position of
Pickaboo is among the top five E-commerce websites in Bangladesh. In this type of
markets, severe competition exists which means it is quite difficult to stay in lead. The
main purpose of E-business shopping in terms of consumers is that they look for varieties
of products and this type of business helps the consumers that are very busy in nature. In
this project, we tried to show to real life scenario of the E-commerce industry in
Bangladesh and tried pointing out their flaws and shortcomings. In addition, we also tried
to introduce some new features to their business, which will not only help the consumers
but will also allow Pickaboo to maintain higher Sales and reputation in the market.

Introduction:

Pickaboo is the largest online shopping store in Bangladesh since 12 th may, 2016. It’s
a one stop shop where all short of product form home appliances, Smart and feature
phones to Cameras, Computing equipment, and various other related accessories.
The company collect items from different companies and distributors and create
product line for the customers. At its core, e-commerce refers to the purchase and
sale of goods and/or services via electronic channels such as the internet.
Social media is now a days become an essential operator of e commerce. Facebook,
Interest and other social media sites plays a key role to gain customer and help to
know the market demand closely. Official Facebook page of Pickaboo is verified and
it has more than 740000 with 4.3stars out of 5stars’ overall reviews .Pickaboo has
achieved around 6minutes reaction time, reaching an incredible 98% response rate
since they get a lot of supports form their social media team. The official website of

Pickaboo is a sister concern of Edison Group. Edison group is already introducing
them in the market with the Symphony Mobile, Edison Logistics and much more.
Pickaboo is the second largest e-commerce company in Bangladesh. The director’s
board of Pickaboo consists of four investors, who have the experience to build more
than one company and various brands. Three members from Edison Group and MO
Magic Technologies India have built a successful conglomerate. (Source: Future

Mission and vision:


Their mission statement is to work in the E-commerce echo system of Bangladesh &
make online shopping a comfortable, trust worthy & necessary shopping experience
for their consumers.
Their vision is “What we promise, we deliver”.

Range of selling and service:


Range selling is one of the key techniques to do better sales. It means selling large
portfolio products in one business store. Range selling used to provide verity if
products to customers, reduce dependency of sales revenue form single product and
have better visibility at store. Pickaboo use this smart range of selling strategy by
buying products form different and many distributions. It is a challenge for Pickaboo
to sell more of their products at a single e commerce business.

Characteristic of product and services:


Pickaboo made their e business much comfortable to their customers with the
characteristic of their product that are:
Affordable: Pickaboo offer best products to their customer at an affordable price.
This affordability brings extra benefits like to get new customer and their trust and
encourage old customer to buy more things.
Flexible: Pickaboo don’t have to have their own product, they sometime forward
order to other e commerce site to deliver product to the customer on time. This
flexibility helps to get more customers.
Options: Pickaboo have mostly every type of product in their inventory .when a
customer need a product suppose smart phone, he/she have thousands of options to
compare and get the best deal.

E business Model:
Pickaboo is a B2C e-commerce organization performing business in Bangladesh.
B2C is the short form of Business-to-consumer, this business model based on
transactions between a companies that sells products or services and individual
customers who are the end users of these product.
In Pickaboo, they offer to sell various types of product like home appliances, Smart
and feature phones to Cameras, Computing equipment, and various other related
accessories. Individual customer like us can chose the best and necessary product
and can get that product direct delivery at home or other sweet able place of us.
Here Pickaboo is the business part and we are the consumer part of the B2C
business model.

Drivers of e commerce (Business perspective):

 Cost: Its hard task to gain profit by offering products at a reasonable price. Costs
are the perceptions of Pickaboo managers regarding the relative advantages and
disadvantages of e-Business for the organization.
 Efficiency: it describe how efficiently they are operating their business. Pickaboo
has a good marketing strategy but for some reasons they are not reaching to the
target customers.
 Competitiveness: In this growing e commerce market Pickaboo always keeps eye
on their competitor’s activity and their performance. By giving extra features and
making the system more comfortable to use by the customer is always giving extra
benefits to them.
 Government support: the government can support its growth by reducing texs on
online shopping to help this growing company.
 Technological support: Pickaboo using as much technological facilities they can
to serve their customers well than other competitors. Still there are less
technological support to Pickaboo and other companies in Bangladesh to run their
business more effectively.

Drivers of E- Business: (Customer’s Perspective)

 Convenience: How convenient and trustworthy the online shopping is and how
comfortably customers are experiencing the online business in their daily life is
important in e-business drivers.
 Cost: Online shopping should charge less price than the offline shops so that
customers do not feel that they are paying more money if they purchase it from
online.
 Choice: As customers are not visiting physically to see the product in online
shopping, e business should have enough variation in their product collection so
that it meets customer’s choice.
 Customization: Customization option gives extra value to customers to customize
the product on their choice. Easy customization and its convenience is important
factor in this drive.  Content: Content is an important driver to customers to
convince them to choose online shopping rather than offline store shopping to avoid
hassle.

Value proposition:
The value proposition of Pikaboo is the value that it provides to its business to their
customers (B2C). Pikaboo has different value propositions for their customers:
In this E-commerce sector of Bangladesh Pikaboo is one of the most developing one.
They are like a retail store which has been retailing a wide range of electronic and
lifestyle products such as - mobiles & tablets, desktop & laptop, home & kitchen
appliances, gadgets, apparel, makeup, skincare, and accessories. The customers can easily
select their product according to their choice from Pikaboo website. Customers make
their preferable shopping cart according to their needs. They also have exchange and
return option as well. As a B2C organization they are doing their process. They also have
a mobile application both for Android and IOS operators which gives the customers the
best experience.

Revenue model of the organization:


The revenue model is like all other B2B/B2C sales website which include:
 Web catalog: All the products is displayed on the website and app.
 Digital content: The website and app both have good content.
 Advertising-supported: Different ads of best electronics brand is showed in the
website and app.
Pikaboo website has all these three option in their website. They don’t have to pay
subscription fees to enter their website or getting their mobile application. The transition
only happens when an order is purchased. It should through Bkash, Nogod and others
online payment or card payment.

Like any advanced innovation or buyer based buying market, web based business has
developed throughout the years. As cell phones become increasingly well known,
versatile business has become its own market. With the ascent of locales like Facebook
and Pinterest, online networking has become a significant driver of web based business.
Pickaboo has caught this huge open door through thinking of a business stage where they
deal every one of their items on the web. Evidently they are following "Unadulterated
Play" structure since they have their reality on the web. In spite of the fact that they have
their very own office at Niketon road however they actually deal their items on the web,
they don't have any retail outlet.

Pikaboo is making a handsome amount of revenue through the website and mobile
application. They don’t have any online retail store but in occasional events they do that.
Their revenue generating strategy is given,
Product strategy: They generally works as middleman between the famous brands and
customers. They always try to provide the best product to their end customers. They also
got a great boost for that.
Service Strategy: Pikaboo is very loyal and obedient to their customers. They offer EMI
process with 0% interest program. They also provides warranty and replacement service.
For Apple and Oneplus they supply the official brand warranty.
Price Strategy: The EMI process has gave them a great boost of customers. They also
give the promise with the quote, “The better quality products with better price and
service”.

Marketplace structure
 Intermediaries: Pickaboo utilizes go-betweens, for example, Google Web crawler for

their organization. They also retain individual info of customer in their Intranet so that
they can send the right product to the

internet site all Pickaboo’s customer can visit the website and buy their selective goods or
products which will they prefers. Also the seller can show their product though the
internet website and sell their product.

Web technology and software application:


Pickaboo is always up-to-date. They always follow the trend. So when new update came
in the online world they always update their software. They are very sincere in this
prospect. At this moment web 2.0 technologies is the latest one and Pickaboo use this one
for their site.

Blog:
As like as website, Pickaboo also has their own blog site

maintain your beauty, how to lead a healthy lifestyle, talks about the importance of
technology which helps someone to adapt something. They also add their event details
which will occur in numerous place as well as their retail shop etc. They try to fix all the
problem but often their customer face some problems and for this they also talk about the
problems their customers often might face. They give the complete acknowledgement
how someone use the website, how someone buy products from the website and most
importantly how someone return the product if they face ant problem. Everything is

Web content management strategy:
Pickaboo follows 4 strategies for their web content management strategy. They are given
below:
1. Keep it simple: If someone visit Pickaboo’s website, they will see Pickaboo keep it
very simple. We the people don’t like complex things. They thought about the general
people. Someone can easily find their desired product and purchase process is also easy.
They track product based strategies.
2. Keep it reliable: Someone will find always find the products description, price, quality
and everything for which customers will understand the products value easily. If the
product is out of stock, they inform it rapidly in their website. They always effort to make
sure that what consumer see on web site page about product is permanently true when
consumer see the product on their hand.

Pickaboo is certainly the latest buzzword for a tech online shop in Bangladesh. Since
2016 they have managed to obtain as one of the best E- commerce companies. Whenever
people in Bangladesh want to buying electronic products like smartphones, camera,
digital devices and other devices they look for some trustworthy site. Pickaboo is one of
them. In the beginning Pickaboo was a mediocre company. But now it has gained people
trust by providing accurate product and good after sale services. At first, Pickaboo
introduced for selling premium electronic products. After that, Pickaboo has managed to
extend their multiple product lines.

Pickaboo’s business strategy is separate than others. Their strategy is to providing th


original products and delivering it to the end consumers. Since e-commerce industry is
completely new in our country market, people are not so comfortable in buying products
from online market rather than in physical store because of the trust issues. Because there
are many organizations who provides lower quality products and do harassments,
bluffing with the customers. But Pickaboo has managed to gain huge number of trusts
from their customers by delivering them the accurate products in time. Basically they
make sure that, customers can get the original products from the original brand with the
original price. For this, they always keep contact with the original distributors. Following
this anomalous business strategy Pickaboo is something different than the others. In
addition they provides mobile banking payments and EMI services so that their customer
can feel comfortable to purchase their products.

Analyzing E-business strategy of Pickaboo:


To analyze the E-business strategy of Pickaboo, we need to summarize their SWOT
analysis, competitor analysis, situation analysis, strategic agility and market positioning.

SWOT analysis:

Strengths:

 Trustworthy: one of the best E-commerce organization in Bangladesh, which is


gained customers trust in market.

 After sale services: Providing the official brand warranty of products from
companies like SAMSUNG, One plus, Sony and many more. And thus
competitors are turn to their loyal customers.

 Physical presence: Pickaboo have a physical presence. In case, any customer feel
hesitant to buy any product, they can see the product in person in their outlet in
Gulshan Avenue.

 Transaction services: Easy and lenient transaction system for the customers as
they have EMI service. They provides many other facilities regarding the
transactions services like cash on delivery, free return policy, online payment,
bKash, card on delivery and so on.

 Security of personal data: Secured website that can protect your all personal
information safe from the outsiders.

 User friendly website: Easy access to the website by using both mobile and
computer. Which make user friendly and customer can order their prefer product
easily.

Weaknesses:

 Low brand recognition: Brand acknowledgement of Pickaboo is lower than the


enough. In remote area many people doesn’t know about the Pickaboo compare
than their competitors like Daraz, Backpack.

 Lacking of stock: This is the reason where Pickaboo is standing at the backward
line. Their customers have this complain that, sometimes they don’t get the
delivery of the products for out of stocks. But that product did show on their
website.

 Limitation of product line: Compared to the competitors Pickaboo has limited


product lines. For this reason customers usually shift them to the other
competitors.

 Improved delivery system: In terms of delivery the ordered products outside of


Dhaka, Pickaboo have to do a lot of improvements. Sometimes it takes more than
six days to deliver the products. It should be improved and thus they can hold
their place in market for the long run.

Opportunities:

 Emergence of E-commerce market: From the beginning of Pickaboo the


percentages of buying and selling through E-commerce is rapidly. For this reason
it has the opportunity to become the market leader.

 Customization: From a very few online marketplace Pickaboo is one of them


who provides the customers to customization schemes, and customize their
product s their preferences.

 Emergency delivery: Launching this feature would be a great upper hand as


there is a high demand of spot purchasing.

 Gift: Pickaboo should assume responsibility to gift delivery orders like flowers,
chocolates and so on.

Threats:

 International competitors: In the near future competitors like Amazon, EBay


may enter the local market and then it may be a huge disadvantage for Pickaboo.

 Highly competitive market: As it’s easy to enter the new market on the E-
commerce business, so there are a lot of competitors in the industry. Pickaboo
should take proper business strategy and maintain it.
 Political instability: In Bangladesh it is common thing about the instable
situation in political area. So it is quit risk to doing business as it is the major
threats in near future.

Competitor analysis:
 Daraz: Pickaboo has many competitors but among of them Daraz is one of the
biggest competitors. Daraz is one of the best online shopping in Bangladesh.
Almost every people know about this organization for the huge amount of
promotions and availability of every type of product. Daraz is somewhat better in
term of product line as they have the more product line than Pickaboo on the other
hand Pickaboo is better about the validity of product and originality of the ordered
product.

 Backpack: Nowadays Backpack has become one of the biggest competitors as


they launched some features where you can get the product from outside of the
country. They can bring products from United States and deliver it to customers
hand within 16 days. Which is really impressive. It becomes trustworthy within a
short period of time as they are the good site to purchase foreign products.
Actually Backpack has the total business plan which can be more effective than
Pickaboo.

Situation analysis:
In an interview Morin Talukder, CEO of Pickaboo said that, “Pickaboo probably has one
of the smallest marketing team among the E-commerce companies in Dhaka. We are
currently a small team of three people- one designer, one intern and I.” He also added
that, “our marketing has a distinct nature. We mostly work in collaboration with different
brands who sell on our platform- almost 70% of our marketing activities are carried out
in collaboration with smartphone brands. As a result, a significant percentage of our work
goes there.”

Nowadays in recent markets, Pickaboo is focusing only in online marketing about the
customers’ needs and wants. They provide the best product to the customers’ about their
preferences and they can customize it whatever they want. They know that,
understanding the customer is the key to success. And for this reason they are here as the
one of the best online site in Bangladesh.
Strategic agility of Pickaboo:
Strategic agility is about gaining a competitive advantage by capitalizing on new
alternatives or variations. If there are some innovations of unique ideas then organization
should quickly implement those ideas and create some unique products to capture the
markets consumers to all the favors. Thus you can hold your position in the market.
Pickaboo is ultimately taking all the essential steps to remain in the industry. Pickaboo
comes up with some features that customers can chose the products and customize it by
their preferences. They can also exchange their old devices and can purchase brand new
devices with it. It also has acknowledgement of “A” grade product and great after sale
services.

Market positioning:
The mission of market positioning is to se4t up the image or identity of the brand or the
product so that the customers can carry some good feedback or images. From the very
beginning of the Pickaboo, it creates such image of their organization as they deliver the
original product with official warranty which gives the satisfaction to the customers. It
always look after the customers’ needs and wants and they intends to provide them to the
customer with the cost efficient way. In addition, they provide many facilities compared
than the competitors in the market and they don’t charge extra amount of money for those
services.

Major threats and solutions:

 Lacking of brand recognition all over the Bangladesh: Though Pickaboo has a
excellent presence in Dhaka city but when it comes to outside Dhaka, there is not
enough popularity or preference. Actually in remote area people are not aware of
this organization as their competitors like Daraz have. Daraz have done proper
promotions activities which covered the all segments of the customers all over the
Bangladesh. And this is the huge threat for Pickaboo.

They should make some campaign and do some attractive promotions which can
bring attraction all types of consumer all over the Bangladesh which can cover all
type of segments and bring huge number of recognition of the organization. By
bringing awareness of the brand it can increases more sale.

 International Competitors: In near future international companies like Amazon.


EBay, Flipcart may enter the Bangladeshi market and then the customers of the
local organizations will shift to them because of extra features. Pickaboo will
have the same problem if they enter the market. And this is another major threat
for Pickaboo.

Pickaboo needs to follow the trends in the latest market and use the multiple
business plan where they can shift to the new. They should also add more and
product line and add some extra features with competitive price range. Thus they
might remain their place in the E-commerce industry.

Requirement 5: E-business security:

-Five IT security risks which can negatively impact the e-busines

Credit card fraud: This is known to be one of the most common yet oldest security
threat that are faced by e-commerce websites. Detecting a transaction that has been done
fraudulently, can be quite difficult for both customers and sellers. The difference between
physical and online fraud is that while shopping online the card is not required to be
shown physically. The fraud/hacker individual only requires the card information and can
steal these information as they are being stored digitally. After they hack into these cards,
they either use it for their own selves or sell out the card’s information to other intruders.
Fraud activities as such in e-commerce sites not only negatively impacts the real
consumer but also has an effect on the site owner itself, as the consumers may ask for a
refund as they did not originally intend to buy anything from the site. Although E-
commerce site owners do not have full control on this particular type of risk that is
associated in this business but there are some signs/indications that the owners can keep
an eye on to prevent from such activities to occur. The signs are: 1) the order received
from the consumer is bigger than other average orders. When such large orders are
placed, the site owner can directly contact to the card owner to confirm the order. 2)
Unusual location: For Example, Pickaboo receives most of it’s orders from the capital
Dhaka, but if they receive an order with a delivery address in for instance Bandarban then
Pickaboo should consider verifying the order properly because Fraudsters usually put in
addresses that are later difficult to trace. 3) Several cards being used from the same IP
address: This basically means that one individual is placing several orders via different
cards from one device. This has a chance of being fraud since Hackers are more likely to
use many cards simultaneously.

Website Crash- This may happen due to a several reasons but the one that is considered
to be the most popular one is due to too much traffic in the website. This basically means
that there are too many people trying to reach this website all at once. These sort of
crashes may happen during festivals such as Eid or when there are massive discounts on
the E-commerce sites i.e. Black Friday. To prevent such hassle Pickaboo can consider
such sudden rush of traffic by maintaining a strong server for their website.
Privacy Issues- While purchasing goods online, for example in Pickaboo, consumers
usually need to fill in their personal information such as contact number, address for
delivery/shipping etc. If the E-commerce website looks forward to make more money by
selling these information to other business organizations such as contact number (so that
the other business buying these information can promote and let the consumers know
about their product), then this will invade the consumer’s privacy and will lead to getting
texts they do not intend to.

Website hacking- People with ill intentions i.e. hackers may hack into the website and
may interrupt their business transactions which may lead to huge levels of theft and make
the business bear all of this loss. On the other hand, hackers may hack into popular e-
commerce websites such as Pickaboo and change the layout of the website and display it
into something they demand for. These sort of hackings are usually done when the
hackers seek something from the government and uses these websites as a route to
display their demands as these websites have a large number of visitors, which helps
these hackers to reach their demands faster.

Malware- Malwares are type of software’s that are made and designed by these cyber
criminals that are intended to cause damage to users. These malwares are inserted into
websites by the cyber-criminals. These malware files allow these criminals to take
control of the user’s computer, fake their identity, gain access to all the data on the user’s
system etc.

-From the identified risks, select two which most likely to cause severe
damage:

Out of these five risks and threats mentioned, the first one to name that can cause severe
damage from a consumer’s perspective is credit card fraud. As credit cards involve
monetary transactions and losing money without intending to, is the biggest loss a
consumer can bear while shopping online.

Another issue that can be considered to cause severe damage is privacy issue/violation.

limit on what amount that can be spent in one day, as these credit card fraudsters usually
place large orders. If the limit is set, then the owners can also monitor all the regular
transactions that are occurring in their business and prevent these fraudsters from making
large orders. Also, other measures such as address verification and order verification can
also be taken by these websites. Although this will increase the business’s costs while
verifying and is also lengthy but will help the business to avoid big losses in the long run.
Now, when it comes to privacy violation, these e-commerce website owners can take
strong measures so that the personal information of these consumers are not leaked. This
can be done by not allowing access to all sort of employee’s working for this website as
there might be some employees who can leak these information in the scope of making
more money.
