Let’s Trick Bear! Tops and Bottoms

Oral Language Dialogue
Hare and Mrs. Hare are talking about how to trick Bear.
Act out the parts with a partner. Then switch roles and act
them out again.

Hare:  Bear has lots of land.

Mrs. Hare:  We used to have lots of land
Hare:  But I lost that risky bet. We had to sell our land.
Mrs. Hare:  Now our children are hungry. What are we
going to do?
Hare:  We could use Bear’s land to grow crops!
Mrs. Hare:  Will Bear let us use his land?
Hare:  I’ll tell him that you and I will do all the work.
I’ll tell him that we will share the profits with him.
Mrs. Hare:  Will we share the profits?
Hare:  Well, he can take his pick—tops or bottoms. If
he picks tops, we’ll grow carrots.
Mrs. Hare:  And give him just the leafy tops we’ve
plucked off them!
Hare:  If he picks bottoms, we’ll grow lettuce.
Mrs. Hare:  And give him just the roots!
