Pedagogical Task

In this essay I am going to illustrate that what is a task furthermore what does
pedagogical mean and what is pedagogical task also who introduce the idea of
task and pedagogical task including what is task frame work and how can we
develop sequence around our task furthermore what are teachers role, and input
devices for the task.

Definition of Task: “A piece of work that must be done, especially one that is
difficult or that must be done regularly” “To give someone the responsibility for
doing something” (Longman English Dictionary) “A task is an activity that learners
engage in to process of learning a language” ( Williams and Burden, 1997) “A
task is a range of learning activities from the simple and brief exercises to more
complex and lengthy activities such as group problem-solving or simulations and
decision-making”(Breen, 1987) In my own words “A piece of work that is
assigned to someone in the form of activity that can range from simple to
complex and brief exercises also involve decision making and problem solving that
can help in the process of learning a language.” Pedagogical meaning: It can be
define as the art of teaching. Pedagogy involves being able to convey knowledge
and skills in ways that students can understand, remember and apply. (Wikipedia)
Pedagogical task: “A pedagogical task is a piece of classroom work that involves
learners in comprehending, manipulating, producing or interacting in the target
language while their attention is focused on mobilizing their grammatical
knowledge in order to express meaning, and in which the intention is to convey
meaning rather than to manipulate from”. (David Nunan) “An activity or an action
which is carried out as a result of processing and understanding language (i.e. as a
response) (Richards, 1986) “Action carried out as the result of processing or
understanding language. It is an any structured language learning endeavor which
has a particular objective, appropriate content and a range of outcomes for those
who undertake the task” (slide share)

In my own words: A piece of classroom that involves the learners through some
activities in order of comprehend, manipulate and understand the language, the
only intention of these activities is to give a complete understanding of language
with particular objective, accurate content and proper outcomes. Task
Framework: The point of departure for task based language teaching is real world
or target task, which are pedagogical task. It includes Rehearsal rationale and
Activation rationale. Rehearsal rationale includes the task designed to rehearse
something students are going to need to do outside the classroom, and activation
rationale includes the task that is designed to provide learners with an
opportunity to rehearse some out of class performance but to activate emerging
language skills. How can we develop sequence around task? The following are
the way by which we can develop sequence around task 1Schema building
2controlled practice 3authentic listening practice 4focus on linguistic elements
5provide freer practice 6introduction to pedagogical task Teachers role: teacher is
a instructor, model and explainer, transmitter of knowledge, reinforcer of correct
language use, facilitator of content and process etc. Input devices for task: Input
refers to the spoken, written, and visual data that learners work within the course
of completing a task. Input can come from a wide range of sources, as the
following inventory from (Hover 1986) shows: 1: Picture stories 2: Maps 3: Letter
4: Memo notes 5: newspaper extract 6: telecom account 7: photographs.
