Anti Academy ‘Flash Camp’

‘Tent City’ protesters camp outside Brent Town Hall.

In a 4:00 am swoop tents, banners, a 20 foot scaffolding tower and even a portaloo
were erected in less than an hour to create another ‘Tent City’. The protesting
teachers and parents are camped opposite the steps of Brent Town Hall and are
collecting signatures for their petition, handing out leaflets and explaining their
cause via a megaphone atop the scaffolding tower.

Hank Roberts, ATL and NUT executive member said, “The ‘Flash Camp’ is the
latest in our protests. We camped on the proposed academy site for six months.
We took to the tree houses when the Council threatened us with eviction and now
we’ve taken our protest to the steps of the Town Hall. Our message is clear – give
us a democratic vote on whether the proposed academy should be built on the
Wembley Park site leading to the loss of the sports fields or not. If they don’t give
us this they can expect the campaign of direct action to continue and escalate.”

Robert Dunwell, Brent Conservative Councillor who joined the protest to show his
support, said, “I have been campaigning against the inappropriate use of this site
for a major school for years, long before becoming a councillor. I continue to give
support to democratic legal and peaceful protest”.

The protest is continuing. For more details contact Hank on 0776 2737 306 or
