Research Project on Accounting Concepts

PART A – General Information

1. Grouping for Coursework


The minimum students per group is 4 with maximum 7 members per group (from the same tutorial class
and program).

2. Plagiarism Statement Declaration


All students MUST sign on the plagiarism statement (refer Part D – PLAGIARISM) and attach the original
signed copy with the coursework. This must be attached on the first page of the coursework.

3. Harvard Referencing Method


Harvard referencing shall be adopted for this coursework and you can get the copy of such format from
Google Classroom. Kindly read, understand and comply with the requirement of such standard.

4. Deadline for Submission


During Week 6 tutorial class.

For late submission, there will be a reduction of absolute marks from the mark’s score submitted:

 Late 1 to 3 days after deadline of submission: minus 10 marks;


 Late 4 to 7 days after deadline of submission: minus 20 marks;
 Late more than 7 days after deadline of submission: 0 marks

5. Grading

The total combined coursework 1 and 2 for this course is 100 marks and a student securing a minimum of
50 marks from the combined coursework 1 and 2 meet the minimum threshold marks in order to avoid
repeating this course. A student who failed to meet the minimum coursework marks may need to pass a
make good test.

6. Turnitin
Turnitin is for students to upload the FINAL copy of the report (Microsoft Word document) into the
Assignment folder. A percentage will appear indicating the figure you have plagiarized. You are required
to print the FIRST page where the percentage is indicated as evidence of having performed Turnitin. An
acceptable percentage for this course is not exceeding 40%.

Any group assignment with a percentage exceeding 40% has an option to redo with the aim of a lower
percentage or being imposed a penalty deduction of 8 marks by the tutor concerned.

PART B – Objective & Learning Outcomes

1. Objective
The objective of this coursework is to extend and refine students' theoretical understanding in basic
accounting, research methodology and teamwork.

2. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this coursework, students will be able to:

• Perform more thorough research from text, journals and websites from the library.
• Write and present report on research requirements as stated on Part C.
• Learn the Harvard referencing method.
• Learn how to use Turnitin.

PART C – Research Project

1. Requirement

Write a well-researched report on various ACCOUNTING CONCEPTS from a company listed on the Main
Market of Bursa Malaysia. The following are topics to be covered:

 Define THREE (3) accounting concepts: historical cost; accrual and consistency
 Explain how the THREE (3) accounting concepts above are applied in practice
 Research the usefulness and limitations of the THREE (3) accounting concepts above
 Illustrate how accounting concepts [any THREE (3)] are applied in the financial statements – attach copies
of the relevant pages of the financial statements (with the information highlighted) as supporting documents
and reference it properly in your report.

To get the financial statements, the team is required to download the latest Annual Report of the selected
company from the Bursa Malaysia website. Look under “Company Announcements”, select category for
“Annual Report”, market for “Main Market”.

Please upload only the FINAL Microsoft Word document into Turnitin. Any supporting documents to support
your research must be a part of appendix attached to your main report and need not be uploaded into Turnitin.

The MINIMUM number of pages of the written research is 4 and MAXIMUM number of pages is 5 excluding
cover, table of content, appendices, signed plagiarism declaration, etc.

Presentation & format

All coursework MUST be submitted in the following order:

(a) Cover;
(b) Table of Contents;
(c) Declaration of plagiarism statement duly signed (original copy only);
(d) Marking schemes (print Part E and attach);
(e) Coursework feedback form (print Part F and attach);
(f) Turnitin plagiarism report (original copy of the first page only);
(g) Introduction (consider giving a summary of report);
(h) Content (refers to the researched item stated on requirement);
(i) Conclusion (share your opinion about the topic researched or your learnings from undertaking this research
assignment);
(j) Appendix;
(k) Reference.

Only items (g) to (i) need to be UPLOADED into Turnitin.
