SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

(SCIENCE)
I.OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson 85% of the students should be able to;
a. describe the features of each of the five layers;
b. explain the basis for the division of the layers of the atmosphere using the
graph; and
c. appreciate the importance of the Earth’s atmosphere.
II.SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic: The Five Layers of the Atmosphere
b. References: Science Learner’s Material Module 2 pg. 309-314
c. Materials: Laptop, Powerpoint Presentation, printed pictures, Chalk and Board
III. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Classroom Management
 Review
 Motivation
(The students will arrange the rumble pictures and let them guess what
are the pictures all about.)
IV. PROCEDURE
A. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
 The students will group into five.
 Each group will be given different pictures and words
 Those words and picture will be paste according on what
layers of atmosphere.
 The first group who can get the correct answer will receive
additional 5 points in his/her quiz.
2. Analysis
 Which layer of the atmosphere contains the ozone?
 In which layer do virtually all weather phenomena takes
place?
 Why is the ozone layer important for the survival of living
things on Earth?
3. Abstraction
Atmosphere – the blanket of air/envelop of gases that surrounds
the Earth.
5 Layers of the Atmosphere

1. Troposphere – 1st layer,weather conditions happen

2. Stratosphere – 2nd layer,the layer of atmosphere above
the troposphere extending about 32 miles(50 km) above
the Earth’s surface. Where airplane and jet planes takes
place.
3. Mesosphere – 3rd layer, coldest layer of the atmosphere
where meteors burn up, between about 30 and 50 miles
(50 km and 80 km) in altitude.
4. Thermosphere – 4th layer,(80 km and 110 km) above the
Earth, the hottest layer of atmosphere. It is characterized
throughout by an increase in temperature with height .
Ionosphere is located in lower region of thermosphere
which carries electrical charges.
5. Exosphere – 5th layer, the outermost layer of atmosphere
where satellites are stationed in this area, 500 km to 1000
km from Earth.
V. APPLICATION
As today’s generation, how importance our atmosphere in our Planet Earth?
What are those activities that can prevent/control the destruction of our ozone layer ?
VI. EVALUATION
Direction: Using the word puzzle below, answer the following question on
your ¼ sheet of your paper.
UP
1.The hottest layer of the atmosphere
7. A gases needs for all living things to live and survive.
DOWN
9. It carries electrical charges but it is not the layer of atmosphere.
10. It gives the Earth heat and light.
SIDE
8. Protects the Earth from harmful rays of the sun like UV radiation.
3. A layer of atmosphere where airplanes and jet plane takes place.
2. The outermost layer of the atmosphere
DIAGONAL
5.A layer of atmosphere where weather conditions happen.
6. A blanket of air that surrounds the Earth.
CENTER
4.The third layer of the atmosphere where the meteors burn up.
