Introduction

In introducing the document's usually described, and a brief explanation or summary thereof
is given. A reader to read the introduction should be able to get an idea about the content of
the text before reading itself. (4 to 10 lines).

Questions: (write with your own words)

1. What do you mean propagation medium open for electromagnetic

waves?
A medium is considered open when the propagation finds no obstacle that reflects the
waves towards the emitting source.
Example: hindered propagation medium:

Open propagation medium:

2. Within the propagation mediums, what is mean by the tangent of

losses?
The tangent of losses is the measure of the state of an isolation. It is also called
dissipation factor and is the measure of dielectric losses of an insulator, solid or liquid.
Therefore, its magnitude depends on the type of insulation and its conditions and is
dependent on its volume. Its value can be affected by moisture and dirt on the
surface of the isolation that allows a current flow to the ground through the surface of
the same increasing losses.

3. Of what physical variables does the value of the tangent of losses

depend?

The relationship between the conduction current and the displacement current in a
σ
specific medium is constant whose value depends on the parameters of the
ωϵ
medium and the frequency of the applied signal. The total current flowing through the
medium is the vector sum of the two components.
Additionally, between the displacement and the conduction current there is an offset
angle of 90º.

This ratio is called the loss tangent and is a characteristic of the medium, in
conductive materials it tends to be very high ( tan(δ )→ ∞) since the conduction current
is much more important than the displacement current; while in dielectric media the
behavior is contrary, so the tangent of losses tends to be small ( tan ( δ ) →0 ) .

4. How are the propagation medium classified from the tangent of losses?

The propagation media are classified in: Perfect dielectrics, Good insulators,
dissipative dielectrics, Good conductors and perfect conductors.
5. What are the propagation parameters of the waves through a medium?
The propagation, attenuation and phase constants, as well as the intrinsic impedance
of a medium, are called propagation parameters according to the classification based
on the loss tangent.

Application exercises:

1. Calculate the tangent of losses Tan (δ) and the angle of losses δ of the
medium chosen in Table 1, if through it travel an electromagnetic wave E of
frequency f =CCC MHz. Note that CCC are the first 3 digits of your identification
number:

Conclusions
Conclusion 1:

Conclusion 2:

The conclusions should be written with their own words and should focus on the
concepts explored, learned, discovered and practiced in the development of the
activity, it is suggested to present a conclusion by topic, the result of learning
obtained as evidence of conceptual assimilation.

To obtain a good writing it is suggested to read the written several times, correcting
and adjusting the text until obtaining a clear and coherent postulate. Avoid
superficiality and simplicity.
