SERVICE MANUAL OPT/70 EC 02

Instruction for insulation and earthing continuity tests

To test the insulation and the continuity of earth connection, it is important to know how the
operating table is built.
The operating table can be used for cardiac and intracardiac surgery so it has to fulfill the
limits standards for the enclosure leakage current in single fault conditions or else the Type CF
equipments limits.
To fulfill the standards limits for patient leakage current and Electromagnetic Compatibility
EMC standards and to obtain the maximum safety, the operating table OPT 70 EC02 was designed
with the following cunnings:
1. The operating table internal electrical wiring are separated, for the parts connected to mains
supply, from the table accessible metal parts and they are made in double insulation.
2. The external mains supply cable is made in double insulation.
3. The incorporated battery charging unit/ power supply has no conctat with the external table
accessible metal parts.
4. A green/yellow wiring is made inside the operating table, to connect all the accessible metal
parts not protective earthed, to the potential equalization connector, as described in the
International Standard Project pr EN 501115 (Particular Safety Requirements for Operating
Tables).

To test the earthing continuity, as described in section 18 of the IEC 601.1 or CEI 62.5
standard, between the protection conctact of the appliance inlet and the earthed metal part is to be
considered that the metal part is not the operating table covers but is the battery charging unit/
power supply covering inside the table. So it is necessary to raise up the operating table covers and
connect the test probe to the above mentioned covering.
At the end of the test pull down the covers, make sure to do not damage the cable of the
charger, and tighten the 2 screws.
About the connection to equipotential equalization: the operating table, as for presently
valid, IEC 601.1 and CEI 62.5 standards, during its use has to be connected to the equipotential
device of the operating theatre. The OPT tables, in addition to the equipotential cable connector, are
gifted with a floor conctact device (antistatic foot or antistatic wheel or contact spring) so the
connection to the equipotential device of the operating theatre can be reached through the antistatic
floor as well. As it is users responsability to connect the operating table to the equipotential device
of the operating theatre, it is users responsability to verify if the connection is done with an enough
low impedence, expecially in the connection through the antistatic floor.

About the insulation test or the dielectric strength: these tests are made by the producer and
due to the fact they are tests causing stress to the insulation material, according to section 4.2 of the
IEC 601.1 or CEI 62.5 standard, they must not be repeated.
