Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The 11th Hour” is a feature length documentary concerning the
environmental crisis caused by human actions and their impact on the planet. It documents the
cumulative impact of these actions upon the planet’s life systems and calls for restorative action
through a reshaping of human activity.
Construction Industry's biggest negative impact on the environment is caused by the burning of
fossil fuels, like gas and diesel. Every construction project results in these gas emissions of carbon
dioxide, methane and other waste products that pollute the air and are believed to contribute to
global warming. We need to ensure ways to limit the environmental impact of construction.
The first step is to limit fuel usage. This can be done by minimizing haul distances, reducing
vehicle idling time, using greener, alternative fuel sources and using hybrid equipment. Next is to
properly dispose of waste. Demolition waste makes up 90% of total debris, and much of this
waste is disposed of in landfills or through incineration. Brick and concrete can be recycled and used
as fill or driveway bedding, and metals and wood are valuable commodities that can be recycled.
Also, utilizing reusable technology will make a huge difference to the effect on climate. For
example, inflatable water dams help combat erosion, water runoff, and prevents sedimentation.
