PROJECT 1 – WORSHIP

1. Socio-Cultural Framework (10 marks)


(i) Explanation of the variety of ways in which music is used in
the particular setting and the responses/involvement in
music of the different persons - clergy/officiating persons,
congregation. 6 marks
(ii) Composition of congregation with respect to socio-economic
background and ethnic grouping and any other relevant factor 4 marks

2. Musical Analysis (20 marks)


(i) Nature of music heard in the two settings 2 marks
(ii) Instrumentation – types of musical instruments used in the taped
music presented 3 marks
(iii) Analysis of the music by reference to structural and expressive
elements.
Features: 15 marks

• Rhythmic features – e.g., metre, characteristic figures, syncopation;


• Melodic features – e.g., tonality, pitch movement, sequences;
• Harmonic features – i.e., chord types, cadences, dissonance;
• Formal structure – i.e., phrase pattern, binary, ternary, strophic, etc.;
• Timbral features – i.e., instruments and/or voices;
• Expressive features – e.g., tempo, dynamics, articulation;
• Genre/Style – i.e., folk, popular, Jazz, Art, Reggae, Gospel, Soca, etc.
