Software Upgrade Procedures

4.1 The Usual Upgrade Procedure
Explain how to upgrade the firmware of the usual upgrade method of NCM-1770 VHF controller,

NTE-770S/780D VHF transceiver and NCM-2000 VHF channel selector.

NTE-770S/780D and NCM-2000 can remote upgrade from any NCM-1770.

When two or more NCM-1770 are equipped, please upgrade in each NCM-1770.

1.1) Preparation for upgrade

1.1.1) Prepare the followings:

- Personal computer OS: Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP,

Hard disk free space: 10MBytes or more, COM (RS-232C) port

- Cable for upgrade 7ZCJD0315 (Handset connector - D-SUB 9pin female connector)

or

RS-232C straight cable (D-SUB 9pin female - D-SUB 9pin male)

- Upgrading program JHS770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe)

- Binary file for upgrade [YYYYMMDD]transceiver***.trn 䠖 for transceiver

[YYYYMMDD]controller***.cnt 䠖 for controller

[YYYYMMDD]CH_Selector***.chs 䠖 for CH selector

1.1.2) Copy the upgrading program (JHS770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe) and binary file for

upgrade (***.trn / ***.cnt / ***.chs) to the desktop of the personal computer.

1.1.3) Turn the VHF radiotelephone on.

1.1.4) Check the maintenance numbers

- In the status display, press [MENU] key and slect- [8 Maintenance] - [4. Software Version] to

check the software version.

- Press and hold the [PWR] key and turn JOG dial, controller (NCM-1770) will display

maintenance numbers.

1.1.5) Turn the VHF radiotelephone off.

1.1.6) Connect the upgrade cable (7ZCJD0315) between the HANDSET connector of the controller

(NCM-1770) and COM port (RS-232C) of the personal computer.

Or, connect the RS-232C straight cable between the rear panel D-SUB connector of the

controller (NCM-1770) and COM port (RS-232C) of the personal computer.

1.2) Executing Upgrade

Transceiver and channel selector can be remote-upgraded from any controller.

Controller needs to be upgraded of each controller individually.

1.2.1) Turn the VHF radiotelephone on with field maintenance mode.

To turn the VHF radiotelephone on with field maintenance mode, press and hold [MENU] key,

and press and hold [PWR] key until beep sounds from the controller(NCM-1770).

1.2.2) When any other applications are operating on the personal computer, close them.

Execute the upgrading program JSH770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe.

1.2.3) Select “COM Port” menu, and select the connected COM port and 38400bps as baud rate.

1.2.4) Click “Show unit’s info” button to show all unit’s information.

Explanation of this screen

ID ID setting of connected units.

0 : transceiver

1-5 : controller or CH selector

Note: When installed firmware (transceiver and controller) version is old,

this function will not work.

1.2.5) Select “Unit” menu, and select the unit for upgrade.

Select “Controller” to upgrade NCM-1770 VHF controller, or

Select “Transceiver” to upgrade NTE-770S/NTE-780D VHF transceiver, or

Select “CH Selector” to upgrade NCM-2000 VHF channel selector.

1.2.6) Only when upgrade NCM-2000 VHF channel selector, please select “ID” menu, and select

ID-number of target CH selector.

For example, when upgrade the channel selector of address "2", please choose "ID2."

Confirming message "ID2" is displayed in "Msg box."

1.2.7) Click “1.File select” button, and select the binary file [YYYYMMDD]transceiver***.trn /

[YYYYMMDD]controller***.cnt / [YYYYMMDD]CH_Selector***.chs for upgrade of the unit to

upgrade. In addition, only the file for unit to upgrade is displayed by setup of 1.2.5).

1.2.8) Click “2.Load file” button, and confirm the display of “Msg box”.

Transceiver ”The TRN file loading ok”

Controller “The CNT file loading ok”

CH selector ”The CHS file loading ok”

1.2.9) In the Main Menu of VHF controller NCM-1770, select [F3.Software upgrade].

Select “1.Baudrate: 38.4 kbps”.

Select “2.Connector: Front”.

When use the rear D-SUB connector of NCM-1770, select “Connector: Rear”.

“3.Target unit” should select the target unit to upgrade.

1.2.10) Select “4.Execute”, then "OK to upgrade?" is displayed on the screen.

Press [ENT] key after select "OK" on the screen, then confirm that the following message is

displayed.

1.2.11) After about 1 second passes, please check that the message of the following example is

displayed on the screen of PC.

Note: If the above message is not displayed, please check the COM port of PC, baud rate and

the connection between VHF radiotelephone and PC.

1.2.12) Click “3.Write Mode” button, and confirm the following messages are displayed on the PC

screen after about a few second.

If the above messages are not displayed on the screen, turn the VHF radiotelephone off and

repeat the procedure from section 1.2).

1.2.13) After clicking "3.Write Mode" button, and then click "4.Write start" button after display <- C.

1.2.14) Click "4.Write start" button to start the software upgrading, "Now Upgrading" is displayed on

the screen of "Msg box".

About five seconds later, confirm that the “Percent” increases from 0%.

1.2.15) About five minutes later, "Upgrading succeeded!!!" will be displayed on the screen of "Msg

box".

1.2.16) And "Succeeded" is displayed on the controller screen as below.

Note 1: If "FAILED" is displayed on screen as below, upgrading is failed.

Never turn the VHF radiotelephone off, and repeat upgrading procedure from 1.2.12).

Baud rate is possible for upgrade in this screen state only at 38400bps.

 Note 2: When a transceiver boot part is upgraded, which the next screen is displayed after a

reboot.

Please choose the file of an application part according to 1.2.7)-1.2.8), and repeat an

upgrade procedure from 1.2.12).

reboot. Please choose the file of an application part according to 1.2.7)-1.2.8), and

1.2.17) Close the application for upgrade.

1.2.18) Turn the VHF radiotelephone off.

1.3) Confirming of the software upgraded

1.3.1) Turn the VHF radiotelephone on.

1.3.2) Carry out procedure of 1.2.4) (unit’s information check), and confirm that the VHF

radiotelephone application software and boot-section is upgraded.

Note: The display of unit’s information is possible only at baud rate 38400bps.

When unit’s information is not displayed, please check the baud rate according to the

procedure of 1.2.3).

1.3.3) Turn the VHF radiotelephone off.

1.3.4) Disconnect the upgrade cable from the HANDSET connector or the rear panel of the

NCM-1770 VHF controller.

4.2 Local Upgrade Procedure of NTE-770S/780D VHF Transceiver
Explain how to upgrade the firmware of local upgrade method of NTE-770S/780D VHF transceiver.

Usually, although remote upgrade is performed from a NCM-1770 VHF controller, when you cannot

remote upgrade by a certain cause, please upgrade with a transceiver alone.

2.1) Preparation for upgrade

2.1.1) Prepare the followings:

- Personal computer OS: Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP,

Hard disk free space: 10MBytes or more, COM (RS-232C) port

- Cable for upgrade 7ZCJD0297A (CDJ-7701S/D J204 - D-SUB 9pin female connector)

or

RS-232C straight cable (D-SUB 9pin female - D-SUB 9pin male)

- CQD-7701 Extension Board CQD-7701 is not necessary when use 7ZCJD0297A

- Upgrading program JHS770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe)

- Binary file for upgrade [YYYYMMDD]transceiver***.trn

2.1.2) Copy the upgrading program (JHS770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe) and binary file for

upgrade (***.trn) to the desktop of the personal computer.

2.1.3) Connect the upgrade cable (7ZCJD0297A) between the J204 connector of CDJ-7701S/D and

COM port (RS-232C) of the personal computer. And please turn OFF DIP switch (S1001) -4 of

CDJ-7701 S/D.

Or, connect the RS-232C straight cable between the J4 connector of optional CQD-7701

extension board and COM port (RS-232C) of the personal computer. And please turn ON DIP

switch (S1001) -4 of CDJ-7701 S/D.

2.2) Executing Upgrade

2.2.1) Turn the NTE-770S/780D VHF transceiver ON.

2.2.2) When any other applications are operating on the personal computer, close them.

Execute the upgrading program JSH770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe.

2.2.3) Select “COM Port” menu, and select the connected COM port and 38400bps as baud rate.

2.2.4) Select “Unit” menu, and select “Transceiver [local].”

2.2.5) Click “1.File select” button, and select the binary file [YYYYMMDD]transceiver***.trn for

upgrade. In addition, only the file for transceiver unit is displayed by setup of 2.2.4).

2.2.6) Click “2.Load file” button, and confirm the display of “Msg box” as ”The TRN file loading ok.”

2.2.7) Click “3.Write Mode” button, and confirm the following messages are displayed on the PC

screen after about a few second.

If the above messages are not displayed on the screen, turn the VHF radiotelephone off and

repeat the procedure from section 2.2).

2.2.8) After clicking "3.Write Mode" button, and then click "4.Write start" button after display <- C.

2.2.9) Click "4.Write start" button to start the software upgrading, "Now Upgrading" is displayed on

the screen of "Msg box".

About five seconds later, confirm that the “Percent” increases from 0%.

2.2.10) About five minutes later, "Upgrading succeeded!!!" will be displayed on the screen of "Msg

box".

2.2.11) Close the application for upgrade.

2.2.12) Turn the VHF transceiver off.

2.2.13) Disconnect the upgrade cable from the VHF transceiver.

2.3) Confirming of the software upgraded

2.3.1) Turn the VHF radiotelephone on.

2.3.2) Carry out procedure of 1.1) - 1.2.4) (unit’s information check), and confirm that the VHF

radiotelephone application software and boot-section is upgraded.

Note: The display of unit’s information is possible only at baud rate 38400bps.

When unit’s information is not displayed, please check the baud rate according to the

procedure of 1.2.3).

2.3.3) Turn the VHF radiotelephone off.

2.3.4) Disconnect the upgrade cable from the HANDSET connector or the rear panel of the

NCM-1770 VHF controller.

4.3 Local Upgrade Procedure of NCM-2000 VHF Channel Selector
Explain how to upgrade the firmware of local upgrade method of NCM-2000 VHF channel selector.

Usually, although remote upgrade is performed from a NCM-1770 VHF controller, when you cannot

remote upgrade by a certain cause, please upgrade from handset connector of each channel

selector.

3.1) Preparation for upgrade

3.1.1) Prepare the followings:

- Personal computer OS: Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP,

Hard disk free space: 10MBytes or more, COM (RS-232C) port

- Cable for upgrade 7ZCJD0315 (Handset connector - D-SUB 9pin female connector)

- Upgrading program JHS770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe)

- Binary file for upgrade [YYYYMMDD]CH_Selector***.chs

3.1.2) Copy the upgrading program (JHS770S780D_VHF_UpdateTool[2.5].exe) and binary file for

upgrade (***.chs) to the desktop of the personal computer.

3.1.3) Turn the VHF radiotelephone on.

3.1.4) Check the maintenance number of NCM-2000 firmware in the following procedure.

Press and hold key to user menu.

Select by keys, and press key to show software version.

Press + keys together to show maintenance number (first double figures).

Press key to show maintenance number (second double figures).

3.1.5) Turn the VHF radiotelephone off.

3.1.6) Connect the upgrade cable (7ZCJD0315) between the HANDSET connector of the channel

selector (NCM-2000) and COM port (RS-232C) of the personal computer.

3.2.7) Set the channel selector into upgrade mode in the following procedure.

Press + + keys simultaneously to set the mode input state.

When it will be mode input state, it becomes mutual display of .

Press keys to set upgrade mode.

When it will be upgrade mode, it becomes blink display of .

3.2.8) Confirm the following message is displayed on the PC screen.

Note: If the above message is not displayed, please check the COM port of PC, baud rate and

the connection between VHF channel selector and PC.

3.2.9) Click “3.Write Mode” button, and confirm the following messages are displayed on the PC

screen after about a few second.

If the above messages are not displayed on the screen, turn the VHF radiotelephone off and

repeat the procedure from section 3.2).

3.2.10) After clicking "3.Write Mode" button, and then click "4.Write start" button after display <- C.

3.2.11) Click "4.Write start" button to start the software upgrading, "Now Upgrading" is displayed on

the screen of "Msg box".

About five seconds later, confirm that the “Percent” increases from 0%.

3.2.12) About three minutes later, "Upgrading succeeded!!!" will be displayed on the screen of "Msg

box".

3.2.13) The display of a channel selector will be the usual channel display simultaneously.

3.2.14) Disconnect the upgrade cable from the VHF CH selector.

3.3) Confirming of the software upgraded

3.3.1) Turn the VHF radiotelephone on.

3.3.2) Carry out procedure of 1.1) - 1.2.4) (unit’s information check), and confirm that the VHF

radiotelephone application software and boot-section is upgraded.

Note: The display of unit’s information is possible only at baud rate 38400bps.

When unit’s information is not displayed, please check the baud rate according to the

procedure of 1.2.3).

3.3.3) Turn the VHF radiotelephone off.

3.3.4) Disconnect the upgrade cable from the HANDSET connector or the rear panel of the

NCM-1770 VHF controller.
