1 PURPOSE
This procedure describes the standards cleanliness target for lubricating oil in different system,
diagnoses engine problems by examining oil status through oil analysis.
2 SCOPE
This procedure is applied for analyzing and monitoring the lube oil.

4 SAFETY
General
Personnel are to operate this instrument only after they have thoroughly familiarised
themselves with the operating procedures and understand the System
5 ISO CLEANLINESS CODES
The ISO cleanliness code (per ISO4406-1999) is used to quantify particulate contamination
levels per milliliter of fluid at 3 sizes 4m[c], 6m[c] and 14m[c]. The ISO code is expressed in 3
numbers (example: 19/17/14). Each number represents a contaminant level code for the
correlating particle size. The code includes all particles of the specified size and larger.
6 OIL ANALYSIS IMPORTANT TABLES
The tables below are used as the standards for examining oil status hence give the initial
detection of engine problems and also show the oil standard cleanliness target for different
system applications, recommended oil sampling frequency.

Severe conditions may include high flow surges, pressure spikes, frequent cold starts,
extremely heavy duty use or the presence of water
Two or more systems filters of the recommended rating maybe required to achieve and
maintain the desired Target Cleanliness Level (ISO 4406 : 99)
