management of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). Roy Nutt and Fletcher Jones started

CSC with 100 dollars and their small business evolved into a Fortune 500 company. The

Roy Nutt and Fletcher Jones are considered successful entrepreneurs. Investing one

hundred dollars they created a fortune 500 company Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) that

has been in business for 50 years (Computer Sciences Corporation [CSC], 2010). The following

paragraphs contain information related to CSC’s strategic orientations and the implementation of

new ideas. Discussed will be CSC’s attitude towards innovation and change and their

encouragement of employee creativity.

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) is successful because they are an innovative

technological corporation. CSC’s reputation is built on innovative design and high quality

technical work. CSC’s environment is based on creating new business ideas and providing

excellent customer service for the customers. The company’s strategic orientations, because of

their unlimited resources, provide room to grow and become productive. Opportunities are

available for employees who are creative, motivated and are a valuable asset to the company.

New ideas are met with excitement. Ideas developed by employees are first, discussed with co-

workers to see if it is possible to implement. The idea is then discussed with management for

further assessment. If management approves the idea, they provide the technology necessary to

implement the idea. There is no way CSC could have been in business for 50 years without

allowing opportunities to mold business strategies.

Computer Sciences Corporation resource orientation uses a moderate amount of

resources when making the choice to pursue an opportunity. The overall attitude towards

innovation and change is positive, and is one of the reasons why CSC has been so successful for

50 years. Many of CSC’s projects are geared towards security, which is why CSC places tight

controls on the resources used for each project. Government regulations mandate CSC to tightly

control these resources. Months of research and testing are required before a project is approved

for development. Projects are monitored based on weekly reports designed to detect errors in the

developing stage. It is important to consider all the variables found during testing before

implementing an approved project

Computer Sciences Corporation’s (CSC) fundamental design is based on innovative

change, new technology and encouragement of employee creativity. CSC is very open-minded

and training is available for those wanting to become a more efficient employee. There is very

little that I can say that CSC has to improve on. They allow their employees to present new

values with little interference.

What makes Computer Sciences Corporation a great company is it has the ability to deal

with risks? If an entrepreneur approaches a project with fear, that project is doomed to fail.

Another important factor related to CSC 50 years of success, is they have been a results oriented

corporation. There is also a high level of energy at CSC along with employees that are fully

committed to the organization. CSC requires employees to be team players and have the ability

to multitask and because CSC gives employees the ability to improve it will continue to be a

successful corporation. (Hadzima, 2005)
