Junior Year Academic Reflection

Fall

You are now about twenty months away from high school graduation. Over the course of those
months, you will be starting to make decisions about who you are as a young adult, where you
want to be, and what you want to do with your life beyond high school. Take a moment to reflect
on where you’ve been and where you’re going.

Think of a class that you have had success with over the course or your high school career. Why
do you think you were successful in this particular class? What did you do to help yourself?
What did your teacher do? What have you discovered about what works for you as a learner?

I love English so I feel like that’s one of the classes that I’ve done well in but in my
previous years, I wouldn’t really turn work in which affected my grades. This year, I
have been trying much harder to keep my work turned in and it’s actually working.
What I did to help myself is that I actually like my English teacher and I have actually
seen the benefits of trying in class. My teacher didn’t do anything but I did notice that
her teaching methods are a bit challenging in a way that convinces me to keep up with
my work. I have discovered that as a learner, I need to have my own space and actual
concentration in order to do my assigned work.

Now think of a class that you have struggled with in some way. Why do you think you had a
harder time with this particular class? What did you do/not do that might have impacted the
experience? What might have helped?

I’ve mainly struggled with math due to not being able to learn the materials quickly
enough or at all. At first, I didn’t fully try in my math classes and instead chose to fool
around which I regret today. What I have been doing this year is trying harder and
actually trying in my classes which have helped my grades stay high and it so far has
been working very well.

At this point, where do you see yourself when you graduate from high school? College, J.C.,
trade school, work world, travel,....?

At this point, I see myself going to a good university and studying something that I’m
passionate about. I also see myself being able to study abroad for a while in my uni
years to expand my knowledge of a specific language and its culture.

What goals will you have to accomplish, academically speaking, in order to get yourself to
where you want to be?

The goals that will help me get to where I want to be is to get very good grades that
are better than my previous ones. I want to show schools that although I had a few
downs, I am a dedicated and hardworking student. I also want to be able to do more
activities in and out of school such as sports, different clubs, and the jobs that will
help me gain the experience I need to help me in my soft skills or that’ll help in
important aspects

What SPECIFIC strategies could you adopt over the course of this year to help yourself?

Specific strategies that I can adapt over the course of the year is to actually do my
work which means I have to stop procrastinating, ask for help when I need to, and
overall stay focused.
