INTRODUCTION
 The ocean covers about 70 percent of our Earth’s surface; knowing that it is facing some
threats and issues, there is a need of implementing an operation concerning its fundamental
aspects. As living organisms, we all know that the ocean plays a vital role in our lives; it can be a
livelihood, a source of food, energy or materials, Instead of gaining from its natural resources, we
might end up losing them because of our lack of discipline from our illegal actions. It is just the
truth that we tend to focus only on ourselves and what satisfies us, but being selfish and unaware
of the happenings of our surrounding isn’t the solution; nothing good will occur if we don’t realize
the gravity of our decisions. Each and every one of us is ought to be responsible for taking care of
the ocean; it needs protection from various man made contribution that affects its whole
importance and significance. A few negative factors that damage it are overfishing, climate change,
pollution and habitat loss of the biotic beings. We should always put in mind that there is not only
a life on land but a life below water; let us be mindful of our doings and consider paying attention
to the rules we should follow pertaining to our ocean’s condition. If we are all willing to help the
recovery of our ocean and bring back its healthy state, we can make a big difference to the present
and future. As individuals, even the slightest thing we can offer that benefits the ocean can lead to
great impact; being ignorant is not a valid reason to not support what’s best for us and for our
planet. The least things we can do to help are reducing pollutants and wastes, lessening the
consumption of plastics, avoid purchasing products that exploit marine life and many more. We
are still in the process of developing our planet into something it was used to, so let us be open
minded and give what our planet deserves.
For us to fully address this kind of issue, minimize the impacts of ocean acidification
through enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels. We should also avoid doing activities that are
detrimental to our marine resources, such as muru ami, which is an illegal fishing system. Let us
learn to cooperate, so that our marine resources, refrain from threats due to factors that can harm
the ocean/seas. Actions that are taken manually isn’t enough, so science based management plans
are required to restore fish stocks and to produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by
their biological characteristics.
