How to Make ISO Image Files from CD/DVD Disks

Every PC user is well familiar with CD/DVD disks. These storage media are the primary source of
storing music, videos, movies and other documents. Optical disks are also the primary source of
delivering the software package like video games and other software programs from software
vendors to end users. Some of the optical disks comes with bootable function like Windows and
other OS DVDs. But working with Optical disks is a bit of hassle with their low data transfer rates
and consumes a lot of power on laptops and notebooks and carrying many optical disks is not
handy if you have a Hard Drive on your PC.
Also PCs, Laptops and some of Notebooks are comes with Optical disk drives, but optical disk
drives are not available in Netbooks. So Netbook users can’t access Optical disks directly on their
netbooks but, they have to use external Optical disk drives which you need to carry with you all
the time in case you want to use CD or DVDs on the go or transfer data to portable USB Drives.
You can copy the CD/DVD files on your PC but Some of the DVDs like games DVDs and some
software packages works with auto-play function which is only working while using Optical disk
in disk drives.

 What if you can use these disks like using them in Optical disk drive without actually using them
into the Optical disk drive? Yes, you can virtually work with them by making ISO files of your
CD/DVD disks and store them on you HDD. You can also install Windows on your PC from ISO
image file on your PC HDD.

 Benefits of ISO image files

 From ISO image files you can make exact copy of your old optical disks and create
duplicate disks with them for backup purposes.

 You can test Software programs in virtual way without using optical disks in disk
drives.

 You can test your bootable disks before burning then on physical optical disks.
 You get the experience of optical disk drive in virtual environment using Virtual CD
Drive.
 Need not carry many optical disks with you all the time.
 Storing ISO image files of your old optical disks is also a backup plan for you damaged
CD/DVD disks.

It’s very easy to make ISO files from Optical disks. Follow the steps below to make ISO file form
CD/DVD disks.

Pre-Requisites for The Task Are:

1. Ultra ISO less than 5mb program and useful in working with bootable disks. You can
use any free programs such as, ISOdisk, DVDfab. They also come with Virtual CD Drive.

2. CD/DVD disk from which you want to make ISO image.

3. An ISO file to burn or to be made bootable.

4. A complete guideline to set the tool for operations.


Step-1:
Install UltraISO. Let the setup be initiated and you may want to un-click some previously clicked
options, else proceed with the way recommended. Click “Next” and rest would be done in an
automated way.

Step-2:
UltraISO is available on a cheaper price for a registered version, if you are interested in.
Registration would lead you to get a lifetime free software updates and unlimited technical
support. Otherwise, just choose “Continue Trial” and it would take you to 30-days free trial.
Note: Skip the first two steps if UltraISO is already installed.

Step-3:
Start UltraISO.

Step-4:
From user interface select “Open” and provide the file from the directory it’s saved within.
Remember it would load only ISO images as, here we intend to mount an ISO file and burn it to a
DVD, CD or USB Drive. So, provide Windows XP, Windows 7, 8 or Windows 10 Fileonly in ISO file
format, you want to create a bootable drive for and it would be loaded straight away within the
interface.Check the file for its availability for the operation and proceed to next step below.
Step-5:
Insert the CD/DVD.

Step-6:
Click Tools tab. Then choose “Burn CD/DVD Image…” as shown in the figure below and it will be
showing prompt box for next operation.
Step-7:
From the “Burn Image” dialogue box, click “Burn” and wait for the writing process to be started.
Step-8:
On successful completion of the process, by the end it will be written as “Burn Successful” and
that’s it. Saving the converted file to any desired location is also possible by accessing “Save”.

Now, your USB Flash Drive, CD or DVD is ready to be inserted to PC and to boot directly from the
media mentioned. Multiple softwares are being added to provide the same functionality but as a
recommended one, UltraISO is provided here, which is available for download at a link above.

started.

6. Wait until “Burn Successful” will be written in the end.
