The contemporary scenario urges the early involvement of the youth as pivotal part of decision
makers when it comes to the matters of fate of nation. tapping the freshness and invigorating ideas
which are unbiased and not prejudiced. We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have
the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power towards good ends.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, today I stand before you giving my point of view on a very
contentious issue. That is, should the voting age be lowered to 16 years. Vehemently, I bring forth
that it should be ! Categorically, these rust free young minds should have an integral role in the
voting, encompassing the various facets be it making decisions or influencing the plan of action.
We, the age group of 16 to 18 are the future of the world and cannot be overlooked. We, the
teenagers are the vocal vision of the country and should have the right to vote and choose our leader.
Marked as the most crucial time of a person’s life, punctuated with attributes to ‘ make decisions and
signs of ‘ growing up into a mature mind’. Is it not ironical that we prepare the children to be
perfectly decisive before reaching to 16, layered with ambitions and possibilities, this is self-
assurance that they are capable to make decisions. So why shouldn’t they have the right to choose
their leader? This will not only give the world a better and new perspective towards the government
but also will rapidly increase the number of voters in each country.
Recent statistics have shown that there has been a dramatic decline in the number of voters in each
democracy and with the increasing number of elections in each country, the voter enthusiasm is
falling tremendously[2]. Thus, involving the age group of 16 and above will help to solve the problem
of less voter outcome. Additionally, the thinking of the youngsters might be different from the elders
and this may therefore, have an unexpected, yet great outcome. With an increasing number of
teenagers in each democracy, each dedicated to test out their rights, this opportunity will be
beneficial for the teenagers as well as the democracy of their respective countries.
Moreover, Inclusion of this age group will certainly bring freshness to the mundane arbitrary ageing
proposals made my the government, to garner more votes the strategy will face a sea change. To
outdo each other and to target this section the programme of work will be certainly mended, for
betterment. How many of you would love for these propagandists to stop with their false promises? I
know I would. But now, that they will be aware of the teenagers coming in, the propagandists will
stop with their phony possibilities and would finally come up with something that the teenagers
want, that the future wants. It goes without a doubt that each democracy should go hand in hand with
the continuously changing technologies. Indeed, including the youngsters will surely motivate the
politicians to involve advancements in their style of running a country. As a result, the country would
improve within itself from a simple action of giving the vote to right from the age of 16. Now I know
some of you might not think whatever I am saying is 100% true.
But let’s get to it! Some may say that teenagers at this age are indecisive in nature, which might lead
them to make wrong decisions. Some might say that they are not even fully independent as most of
their “life changing” decisions need to be approved by parents. Likewise, many may think that us,
students aren’t really keen on involving ourselves in the politics. However, at the age of 16 all the
students decide their 11th grade subjects and choose their carrier. Now choosing your carrier in itself
is a big deal. You’re basically modelling out your future, and don’t you think choosing who is going
to run your country for five years should be an important role of yours ? Similarly, how many of you
youngsters sitting in the audience would like to do something in the field of politics ?
Well, there are certainly a lot of us who would take interest and want to be a part of this field. Then
why shouldn’t we start right away? We can give ourselves the benefit of doubt and instil in ourselves
the elements of collective responsibility .Therefore, youngsters CAN make decisions, they CAN
decide the future. Thus, they CAN have the right to vote. The Youth of a Nation are the trustees of
posterity, [1] therefore in conclusion, the voting age should be lowered to 16!
