necessities to needy families. There will be a box
in the Church office for these donations. We
will also have a Toy Bin in Church throughout
the Advent Season. All toys should be new or
hand crafted and left unwrapped.

FEEDING THE HUNGRY
For some 20 years, a group of Christian volunteers,
including members of St. Edward the Confessor and
San Felipe de Jesus, have been serving meals to the
homeless and working poor in the Capistrano Beach
area. In 2006 the group incorporated under the
name of Welcome INN (Interfaith Needs Network),
a non-profit entity under Section 501(c)(3) of
the IRS Code. If interested in serving or you want

PARISH MEN’S RETREAT
January 28th – 30th 2011
Please join us for our annual MEN’S RETREAT at
Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre.
The theme this year is “Come to the Well of
Living Water…Our Life of Prayer”. We will
struggle together as we explore prayer. We will
question…what is prayer? If God knows, why
pray? Whose mind changes with prayer, God’s or
ours? As the Apostles pleaded with Jesus, so shall
we, “Teach us to pray”. The retreat begins Fri-
day evening and concludes early Sunday after-
noon. This is your chance to let God speak to you,
refresh and restore you, and bring you closer to
Him and to those you love.
A non-refundable deposit of $50 is all it
takes to complete your registration. The to-
tal requested donation for the retreat is $180 in-
cluding the deposit, but no one is ever turned
away for lack of funds. A deposit can be by
check made out to Mater Dolorosa or by Master-
Card or Visa credit card. You can’t afford not to
join us. Pamphlets are in the display case outside

Respect Life
PRE-BORN CAN FEEL PAIN
A creative new state law in Nebraska has apparently
caused a well-known abortionist to stop doing late
abortions there. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Pro-
tection Act, passed with the help of Nebraska Right to
Life and National Right to Life, prohibits elective abor-
tions after the point where there is compelling evi-
dence that the child can feel pain. LeRoy Carhart did
lots of late abortions in Nebraska – he even sued to
defend partial-birth abortions all the way to the Su-
preme Court. But now, he is facing Nebraska’s new

The Church’s Restorative Justice Ministry fo-

cuses on responsibility, rehabilitation and resto-
ration in dealing with the difficult issues of all
aspects of crime and punishment.
As a part of the restorative justice process, the
Catholic community in the California Institution
for Women (CIW) in Corona is extending an
invitation to parishioners in the Dioceses of
Orange and San Bernardino to meet and dis-
cuss issues of the incarcerated with imprisoned
women on January 17, 2011 from 9:00am-
3:00pm.
Those who attend will be encouraged to return
to their parishes with valuable information in
hopes of making people aware of this ministry
and the various ways they might get involved.
