SUBJECT: RSC INSPECTION PROCEDURE.

1.0 This procedure is applicaple to the inspection of rotary shouldered

connections. This procedure is designed to detect service-induced
discontinuities, thread damage and shoulder damage.

2.0 Interpretation of results from this procedure shall be performed only by

certified PTSC OS RSC inspection.

3.0 The PTSC OS inspector should have a pre-inspection meeting with the
customer representative at the job site. This meeting is designed to discuss
connection classifications, acceptance criteria, and procedures. Deviations
from PTSC OS standard procedure or acceptance criteria should be denoted
in the tally book and on the inspection report.

4.0 Before inspection begins, set up an adequate inspection area and position
inspection truck. Properly space and secure connections on rack allowing
sufficient clearance for cleaning, inspecting and collecting data.

5.0 Thoroughly clean each connection with solvent and power driven wire
brushes. Metallic build up should be removed with a high speed grinder
using a stiff bristle brush. A soft fiber wheel may be required to remove
corrosion. Pins should receive a final cleaning with a hand brush and fresh
solvent.

6.0 Visually inspect connection for thread and/or shoulder damage. Damage
that exceeds the criteria for acceptable damage and cannot be repaired
shall be cause for rejection

6.1 Acceptable shoulder blemishes are those abnormalities in the

shoulder surface that do not result in any metal protruding above
the surface, do not lie closer than 1/16” from the ID or OD bevels and
do not cover more than 50% of the radial width of the shoulder.

than +.006” in 2 inches is cause for rejection.

9.0 Perform nondestructive test of the connection in accordance with RP 7G and

5A5 Field Magnetic Particle Inspection and Liquid Penetrant Inspection
depending on material. Mark all indications and investigate with pre-
formed hard fiber wheel to determine depth. Indications deeper than the
adjacent thread root down taper shall be cause for rejection. Customer
specifications may modify this acceptance criteria.

10.0 Repair minor thread damage on acceptable connections.

11.0 Reface damaged shoulders on acceptable connections in accordance with
