My overall reaction to the reading was that it was very informative and helped clear up many
questions I could possibly come across when conducting primary research. Some key terms or concepts
that stuck in my head were how to conduct a survey properly and being able to do it without skewing
the results. I have not completed a lot of the primary research, but this reading has allowed me to go
into my primary research with the correct tools that will yield good and trustworthy results. The primary
research question must be a very narrowed down and direct version of the topic so the results are
similar to each other instead of having vastly different answers to the primary research question.

Observations

1. There are people around

2. They are in the seats at the subway/coffee place possibly studying or just relaxing
3. There are students and what I assume to be professors.
4. No animals
5. Colors: orange(chairs), red, grey, while, kind of bright and vibrant room
6. The temperature is slightly warm but very comfortable.
7. It smells like coffee and the usual subway smell.
8. I hear people chatting, some machine at the coffee place humming loudly, footsteps
9. There are a lot of windows and people sitting outside at picnic tables
10. Most people are looking at their phones or laptops.
11. Awkward conversation going on in front of me
12. People eating

Reflection

1. I used my laptop to take notes on because I don’t have any paper to take notes on.
2. The most interesting thing I observed was the awkward conversation going on in front of me
because I didn’t even have to listen to the words they were saying but I knew that they were
uncomfortable and felt awkward.
3. I chose the subway and coffee shop to observe because Ms. Taylor recommended going there
and I thought that there would be a decent amount of people there to observe.
4. It was kind of weird because I was taking notes of people and they had no idea what I was doing.
5. This activity is different than the one that we will doing for the research project because for the
research project we will be asking people questions and observing their answers but during this
activity we did not ask anyone questions we just observed from a distance. They are similar
because they both are based on the idea of observing other people whether it be observing
their answer to a question of their actions.
