Dear Sir,

A Complain About The Rise of The Crime Rate

On behalf of the residents of Taman Indah, I would like to make a few complains
related to the rise of the crime rate in our residential area. The crimes have becoming more
frequent and all the 300 residents living here are extremely unhappy about this matter.

2. Firstly, there are many cases of burglary (C1) in our residential area. All of the
burglaries have occurred on weekend nights when many of us are not at home (EL) For your
information, a few cases happened every night (C2) during the last three months. It is clear
that someone is targeting this neighbourhood at specific times (EL). We are very concerned
about this trend and hope you will help us.

3. Moreover we are also worried about drugs activities that occur at night (C3).
We find the teenagers around Taman Indah are taking drugs like Marijuana, Cocaine and
Ice. The fact is, those who use marijuana or cocaine are likely to commit violent crimes such
as homicide and sexual assault (EL). This situation can be life-threatening to the residents.
In addition, too many times we witnessed outsiders sold drugs (C4) to the teens.
4. Apart from that there are foreigners who often hold wild parties at night (C5).
They breach the peace when they are arguing, shouting and using offensive language
(EL).The parties usually get out of hand with very noisy (C6) loud music all night long and
it is really disturbing our children and those who have medical problems to rest. (EL)

5. Another serious matter that occurs in our residential area is illegal motorcycle races
(C7). This Illegal activity involves youth and leads to many social problems such as
snatching and violent gangster. They are more bravely when moving as a group and behave
rude to the residents. (EL) They often raced especially on weekends (C8) and we could see
some of them are dead after being involved in accidents. (EL).

6. In order to curb the rising of crime rate, I would like to suggest some actions which
can be done by the police. Firstly, we need for more police patrols (C9) to be placed in the
neighbourhood to ensure that no crime such as burglary and illegal motorcycle races to
happen again. (EL) Next, we also hope you could send mobile police vehicles to monitor
the area (C10). Usually the presence of officers patrolling the streets especially at night in
police cars would deter people from committing crime. (EL)

7. Moreover, we would like to schedule a neighbourhood meeting with you or your

representative to guide us on how to protect ourselves and homes better (C11). I believe
that we cannot prevent crimes alone. It takes police and citizens to work together in
partnership to prevent crime and build safer neighbourhoods. (EL) Finally, I think it is time
for you to consider community police officers (C12) in residential areas that have high
crime rate like us. You could build guard post or booth to enable the residents to quickly
make a complaint and the police are able to act quickly too.
