The world’s endangered species are under threat from
poachers and pet traders wanting more and more animals for
their business. Animal products are becoming popular with
Internet shoppers which is causing the threat to endangered
and vulnerable animals to increase. This is according to a report
by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). The report
“Caught In The Web - Wildlife Trade On The Internet” a search on
the internet showed 5,527 elephant ivory products, 2,630 exotic
animal products and 239 wild cat pelts for sale.

The report represents just a small amount of illegal animal trade

from around the world. Experts estimate the illegal pet trade is
worth billions of dollars a year. The internet has made the
situation worse. “Trade on the Internet is easy, cheap and
nameless. It has recommended tougher worldwide protection of
endangered and vulnerable animals. Trade in wildlife
is because of buyer demand, so when the buying stops, the killing
and trading of animals will stop too.
