indicated.
2.0 PRODUCTS
2.1 General
A. The materials shall consist of a complete rigid cable support system that includes required
straight sections, fittings, connectors, accessories, and other items as described in the RFQ or
PO.
B. Ladder type cable tray shall be aluminum or fiberglass as indicated on the RFQ/PO documents
C. All hardware such as screws, nuts, and bolts shall be 316 stainless steel and shall be adequate
for the tray duty rating.
D. All tray sections and fittings shall have ends pre-punched with holes to match splice connectors.
Each straight section and fitting shall be furnished with a pair of splice plates and necessary
hardware for connection to another section or fitting.
E. Rigid splice plates and expansion connectors shall be fabricated from the same material as the
tray and fittings to which they are to be supplied.
F. Tray straight section lengths, widths, and installation depths, plus fitting radii shall be as shown
in the RFQ and PO documents..
G. The maximum straight section length of cable tray, when fully loaded in accordance with the
manufacturer's recommendation, shall not deflect more than 50 mm (2”) and shall have a
minimum safety factor of 1.5.
A. Straight section side rails, fitting side rails and rungs shall be fabricated from Aluminum
Association Alloy 6063. All fabricated parts shall be made from Aluminum Association Alloy
5052.
B. Trays and fittings shall consist of two longitudinal members (side rails) connected by transverse
members (rungs) welded to the side rails. Rungs shall be spaced 9 inches (20cm) on center,
shall have a minimum bearing surface of 7/8 inch (20mm) and have rounded edges. No portion
of the rung shall protrude below the bottom plane of the side rail. Each rung must be capable of
supporting the maximum cable load, with a safety factor of 1.5 and a 200 pound load when
tested in accordance with NEMA standards.
D. Splice plates shall be made of 6063-T6 aluminum using four square neck bolts and serrated
flange locknuts.
E. Manufacturer’s standard HPDE isolator or nylon pad shall be provided for isolating aluminum
tray from potentially corrosive contact with dissimilar materials.
A. Straight section structural elements shall be pultruded from reinforced polyester resin. They
shall be constructed with a surface veil to insure a resin rich surface and ultra violet resistance.
C. All bonded connections shall be sanded to maximize adhesion and structural integrity.
E. Trays and fittings shall consist of two longitudinal members (side rails) connected by transverse
members (rungs) mechanically fastened and adhesively bonded to the side rails. Rungs shall be
spaced 9 inches (20cm) on center, shall have a minimum bearing surface of 7/8 inch (20mm)
and have rounded edges. No portion of the rung shall protrude below the bottom plane of the
side rail. Each rung must be capable of supporting the maximum cable load, with a safety factor
of 1.5 and a 200 pound load when tested in accordance with NEMA standards.
A. Cable tray manufacturer’s proprietary accessories shall be provided to insure compatibility and
to limit the amount of site fabrication. This shall include horizontal and vertical bends; drop

outs: expansion joints; end plates; clamps and glides; barriers; plus bonding jumpers and ground
clamps for aluminum trays.
B. All fittings shall have a three inch tangent section after the radii.
C. Cable tray covers shall be of the same material as the cable tray. Required hardware to install
covers shall be provided.
A. Inside of cable tray system shall have no sharp edges, burrs, or projections that could damage
cables.
B. Splice plates shall be sized so that they shall not affect the load capacity of the tray.
2.6 Testing
A. Vendor shall perform a quality control inspection of the cable tray to ensure materials and
workmanship conforms to the specified standards.
B. Vendor shall provide Marafiq free entry into shops at all times, and shall arrange all reasonable
facilities, including witnessing of any type or routine tests, necessary to verify the materials and
fabrication are in accordance with the specifications.
C. Any work or materials rejected shall be repaired or replaced. Repair procedures shall be subject
to Company approval.
D. Vendor shall fully describe in proposal the details of the tests and quality control program.
Vendor shall provide type test reports, witnessed by an independent testing laboratory, of the
loading conditions prescribed in this specification and performed in accordance with NEMA
VE-1 or FG-1.
E. If certified test reports are not available for identical tray systems, the tray shall be tested in
accordance with the applicable standard as follows:
