Course: EFL Instruction with Multimedia Course Code: PBI1624

Course Description
Instruction nowadays is inseparable with multimedia comprising of print, and non-print
media including electronic, computer mediated media and social media. Course
participants of EFL Instruction with Multimedia will discuss and learn how English is
learned and taught with the guidance of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), and
the approaches and techniques implemented in English Language Teaching (ELT) in
form of text types. The success of language instruction under the concept of CLT and
text-based approach (TBA) is supported with varieties of channels of presenting
language instruction. The models of presenting the language instruction intended are in
the shape of paper/print and non-print media such as chalk/white board, flash cards,
pictures, posters, books, brochures, charts/graphs, non-projected media, projected
visuals, audio, video, computer, internet and social media. So, Students as the course
participants besides learn the concepts, the approaches and techniques of language
instruction, they may also apply the use of these media into teaching or presentations in
their present/future workplaces.

Learning Objectives
This course enables students to:
1. identify and learn about the concept of CLT and approaches and techniques
intended in English language instruction.
2. identify and select certain media within a wide variety of types of instructional
media in English language instruction.
3. experience learning of English language through the use of different types of
media.
(4) access the Internet and search for useful online English learning resources.
(5) utilize varieties of learning sources on English language learning via social
media.
(6) develop their own English language learning sources.

Evaluation:
1. Attendance and In-class Participation is 15%.
2. Group work is 15 %.
3. A reflective paper (Mid Term) is 35 %.
4. Application activity (Final Term) is 35 %.

Attendance and Punctuality


Please come to class each time and on time. Each unexcused absence will result a 3%
deduction from the final grade. If you are or will be absent for medical or personal
reasons, please inform me in advance and show evidence (e.g. medical excuse notes).
A sign-in sheet for you to sign your name will be provided. Please do not sign for other
people. A failed grade for the course because of the permitted number of absences is
according to the university regulation.

Collaboration
At different times in this class, you will work in small groups and complete collaborative
learning or assignments. Please make sure that you contribute and complete your share
of work in the group. By doing so, you will enhance your abilities in language as well as
cooperative work.

Internet Connection
As the course needs an internet connection, I would like to be online for some activities.
Or be sure that you can be connected to the internet.
