6 Use appropriate PPE.
7 Announcement / notice on shutdown has been made to all
departments one hour before planned shutdown and 15 minutes
before shutdown

C BEFORE ENGINE START-UP: Comply

Remark
Yes No
1 Inspect the day tank diesel level.
2 Drain the lube oil and fill up with the recommended oil. Check oil
strainer and clean oil sump if necessary.
3 Replace lube oil filter, water filter, lube oil bypass filter (if installed)
and fuel filters.
4 Drain and flush radiator. Fill up with new coolant (water mixed with
anti corrosive agent in correct proportion).
5 Check battery voltage, electrolyte level, specific gravity and charge.
6 Inspect and clean battery terminals. Apply petroleum jelly if
required.
7 Check air filter element. Clean or Replace as necessary.
8 Inspect the fan belt and alternator belt condition and tension. Adjust
if necessary.

C BEFORE ENGINE START-UP: Comply

Remark
Yes No
10 Clean crank case breather.
11 Clean the generator.
12 Drain the sediments from the fuel tank. Clean the tank if necessary.
13 Inspect fuel transfer pump operation
On the alternator side: Comply Remarks
Yes No
1 Inspect the rectifier assembly (rotating diodes) for loose connections
or over heating.
2 Inspect the surge suppressors (MOV - Metal Oxide Varistor) installed
in the diode plates.
3 Check generator connections for loose connections, arching,
overheating or damage.
4 Inspect voltage regulator card for any signs of damage.
5 Open the inspections cover of generator and check the exciter
windings. Clean the windings using vacuum cleaner.
6 Inspect the power distribution wiring, connections, transformers and
windings.

D BEFORE ENGINE START-UP: Comply

Remark
Yes No
1 START AND RUN THE GENERATOR SET

2 Adjust the trimmer in automatic voltage regulator if necessary.

3 Test high temperature trip, low lube oil pressure trip, over speed
trip, over voltage and over current trip.
4 STOP THE GENERATOR AND SIMULATE MAINS FAILURE AT
UNDER VOLTAGE RELAY / AMF PANEL OR PERFORM MAINS
SHUTDOWN
5 For sets running in parallel, synchronize the two generators on
‘Auto’ mode.
6 Run the engine “ON LOAD” for at least one (1) hour
7 Ensure emergency supply is provided to the appropriate areas.
8 Check operation of gauges and indicator lights.

9 Periodically check all the gauges, while running.

10 Check whether readings are within the limits.
11 Check for excessive vibration when engine is running. Tighten the
anti vibrating pads hold down bolts.
12 Inspect the condition of exhaust manifold insulation

13 Inspect for signs of leakages of: fuel, lube oil, engine oil, exhaust
and coolant/water.
14 Check the exhaust smoke appearance.
15 If any engine alarm is on while running, identify the faults and stop
the engine.
16 Check alternator battery charging operations.
17 Check operation of ventilation fans.
