Exec Requests $33 M to Close Florence Prison
- Annualizes to $49 M in ’22

 The Executive proposal eliminates 3,679 beds

 The Executive proposes adding 4,193 beds at private


prisons and county jails for net increase of 514 beds

 Most of Florence staff shifted to Eyman, including 471


CO-IIs to reduce the latter’s vacancy rate

 The new funding would fund these placements

Significant Florence Issues to Be Resolved

 Florence has 1,000 maximum/close custody beds


– Probably will not shift to privates/counties
 County jail bids will need to be evaluated for
education/drug treatment
 Centurion health care contract is fixed price, but state
population will decline substantially
 Only the execution facility will remain open at Florence;
limits alternative uses
