Summary of Post-Survey Results

March 2, 2020

We had slightly fewer respondents for our

post-survey compared to our pre-survey.

Approximately 60% of participants felt

they had a better understanding of how
Big Data can be used to solve real-world
problems. We can probably improve upon
this figure by analyzing our pre-survey
data earlier on to gauge what kinds of
real-world problems would best apply to
this group (in this case, K-12 educators
were the majority).

An astounding 89% of participants felt

they had a better understanding of how
data and data analytics can drive
instruction and learning! Awesome!
About 60% of participants had a better
understanding of issues and concerns
related to Big Data & Learning Analytics.
We could improve upon this by
including a learning activity in our OER
related to ethics, security, and privacy
around data analytics.

1
Augmented analytics is a relatively new
concept, but an exciting one to think about
for the future of education. This would
probably be implemented in private
institutions and higher education before it
makes its way down to the public
education sector.

Approximately 60% of participants believe

that Big Data & Learning Analytics can
transform education (like Candace Thille).
While there is a long way to go for the
K-12 sector to reap the benefits, due to
lack of policies and infrastructure in place,
the future of education will expand and
improve. When we change how we view
data, we change how we view education.

2
Most participants thought the resources/
tools and learning about applications of
Big Data & Learning Analytics to be the
most useful. In the future, we will aim at
improving the activities by:
1) Making web apps more workable
and reduce user frustration with
technology
2) Making content of activities more
case specific so knowledge can be
directly applied (e.g., use case
studies)
