O. Henry, whose real name is William Sydney Porter, is one of the best
known American writers. He was best-known for writing stories with surprise endings.

Motivation: “Listen and Draw”


Step 1 : Draw a tree.
Step 2: Draw a sun at the upper right side of the tree.
Next: most of the leaves of the tree fell into the ground and only one leaf
was left on a branch. Finally, Write your name on the uppermost left side of your paper and below,
your grade and section and the date today.

Discussion Proper:
This morning we are going to discuss what you have read yesterday about the short
story” THE LAST LEAF by O. Henry” using the Six Thinking Hats Strategy. In order to know if you really
understood the story let’s have a comprehension check.
Guide Questions:
1. What is Johnsy’s illness?
2. What is the cause of her illness?
3. What helps Johnsy recover from her illness? Do you think it is psychological in
nature? Why?
4. How does Mr. Behrman emphasize the connection of Johnsy’s faith to be healed
with the vine’s ability to hold the leaf ( based on Johnsy’s point of view)
The Teacher would discuss the The Six Thinking Skills, give the mechanics of the activity
enumerating and explaining the function of the six group. (White, Black, Blue, Red, Green and
Yellow)
C. APPLICATION
The teacher will now group the students into six groups by letting them pick the hat
color under their chair.
Since the group will do the differentiated activity, the teacher will distribute the
questions for each group and is given ten (10) minutes to practice and three (3) minutes
presentation.

readers for learning and understanding life? Express your answer through
a speech.
Black What was the cause of Old Mr. Behrman death? Is the act reasonable?
Express your answer with proper emotion.
White What would you become if you are able to put in action all the values
that are shown in the story? Make a letter as if you are addressing it to
Charo Santos of MMK.
