ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT IN TREE PLANTING

I. OBJECTIVES

 Connect with nature

 Discover how one can improve their environment
 Uplift the quality of living environment through active planting

II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

School tree planting activity is an eye opener that allows the students, parents, stakeholders and
other participants to be knowledgeable with the benefits of trees and foster environmental
stewardship. Tree planting is a great way to increase students’ interest in their local environment
and achieve academic goals. Each school tree planting provides educators with the opportunity to
inspire school administrators, faculty and students to affect positive change at their schools and,
in turn, their communities.

When students plant trees, they can see for themselves the structure of trees; learn what they
need and how they grow. Teachers, together with the participating officials, can use the planting
process to discuss the benefits trees provide, while including many subjects that their classes are
studying.

Since learning should be contextualized, the school enthusiastically conducted the said activity.
Through actual movement, it serves as personalized way of relating what they've learned in
books to visible, living examples.

Students become aware that they can play a role in protecting the environment through personal
involvement. Furthermore, tree planting is way of increasing the residents awareness of the
benefits of it. Ultimately, it is hoped that this will help them make smart decisions about
conservation and use of our valuable natural resources.

The program of activities started at 7:00 A.M. with the registration of the participants at the
school’s covered court and the at 8:30 A.M., formal launching of the said program began.
After the launching, we proceeded to the coastal area for the tree planting. We, together with
all the participants, planted almost 170 mangrove seedlings and around 50 mahogany
seedlings.

It was participated by the Division NGP Coordinator, Mrs. Betty L. Herceda, Division
ALIVE Coordinator, Mrs. Rosalina Mapigid, EPS I, Mrs. Janeth Esteban, School
Administrators, District Supervisor, Secondary School Science Coordinators, Student
Leaders from other schools, TNHS PTA Officers and Members, Sirawan Community
Leaders, Barangay Council of Sirawan and its Functionaries, Toril NHS teachers and
students and other visitors who willingly joined the launching. After the tree planting, snack
was served. The office of the City Mayor donated “Lugaw” in addition to the little
preparations given by the Division Office and Toril NHS for the participants. At 10:00 A.M.,
all participants went back to their respective offices/schools. It was a successful activity and
we extend our gratitude to everyone participated.

This tree planting program is a learning opportunity to get kids involved in the environment and
conservation of our natural resources. Recent scientific studies suggest students are better able to
concentrate, complete tasks, and follow directions after playing in natural settings. Another study
found self-discipline in girls can be achieved through increased exposure to nature.

These School Tree Planting projects connect students to the benefits of trees and foster
environmental stewardship. Tree planting is a great way to increase student interest in their local
environment and achieve academic goals. Each school tree planting provides educators with the
opportunity to inspire school administrators, faculty and students to affect positive change at
their schools and, in turn, their communities.

When students plant trees, they can see for themselves the structure of trees, learn what they
need and how they grow. Teachers can use the planting process to discuss the benefits trees
provide, while including many subjects that their classes are studying. As trees mature, the trees
can be a continuing, personalized way of relating what they've learned in books to visible, living
examples.

Students become aware that they can play a role in protecting the environment through personal
involvement. Ultimately, it is hoped that the experience will help them make intelligent decisions
about conservation and use of our valuable natural resources.

Apart from government's greenery works, the wide participation of the private sector is also
crucial to the success of our greening efforts.

Furthermore, the community plays a significant role in our greening, and tree management work.
The Greening, Landscape and Tree Management Section will mount a variety of community
involvement and public education activities for various target groups to foster an attitude of
greening the environment and care for trees across the territory. These activities include roving
exhibition, school talks, seminars for the industry, private owners and property management
companies, etc. For more details, plea
