Attempt any three questions; each carries 10 marks)

1.An aircraft refrigeration plant has to handle a cabin load of 30TR.The

atmospheric temperature is 17 oC. The atmospheric air is compressed to a pressure
of 0.95 bar and temperature of 30 oC due to ram action .The air is then further
compressed in a compressor to 4.75bar, cooled in a heat exchanger to 67 oC ,
expanded in a turbine to 1 bar and supplied to the cabin .The air leaves the cabin
at a temperature of 27 oC .The isentropic efficiencies of both compressor and
turbine are 0.9.calculate the mass of air circulated per minute and the C.O.P .For
air, Cp=1.004KJ/KgK and (gamma) Cp/Cv=1.4
2. Derive the expression for the C.O.P of a Bell Coleman cycle?
3. What do you mean by heat engine, refrigerator and heat pump? Explain in
detail. In these which is having highest C.O.P while working between same
temperatures limits.
4. A dense air refrigeration cycle operates between 5 bar and 20 bar. The air
temperature after heat rejection to surrounding is 37 oC and air temperature at exit
of refrigerator is 7 oC. The isentropic efficiencies of compressor and turbine are
0.84 and 0.82 respectively. Determine:. A) COP, B) compressor and turbine work
per tonne of refrigeration. and C) Net power per TR. Show the cycle on T-S
diagram
