Unique products for
rectangular sedimentation tanks
A unique range of products
Zickert Products specializes in the provision of sedimentation
products for use in local authority drinking-water purification plants,
sewage treatment works and industrial waste water treatment systems.
In addition to our own well-known range, we also market products
for oil/water separation and recycling of industrial process water.
We can assist in the planning of turn-key solutions to meet particular
requirements.
Products from Zickert are characterized by their originality, which
explains why so many of them are also patented. Development of
new products in close cooperation with our customers is an ongoing
process.

Zickert Products
Zickert Products was established in Kungsbacka, just south of
Göteborg on the West Coast of Sweden, in 1973. Today we have
premises in both Göteborg and Kungsbacka.
For the most part, production takes place in our own premises,
although certain components are bought in from carefully selected
suppliers.
Zickert Products became a Division of Nordic Water Products AB
in 2001, a move that has enhanced our resources.

Keeping the environment to the fore

It goes without saying, of course, that all water treatment operations
help to protect the environment. Thus it’s only natural that the
products used in those operations should also take the environment
into account where materials, techniques and the production process
are concerned.
Our products have been specially designed to keep energy
consumption low without the need to compromise on performance.
The Z 4000 FlocBee and the Z 6600 Siphon consume very little energy
or none at all, and the Zickert complete sludge scraping system, inclu-
ding bottom scrapers, surface scrapers and scum pipes can also be
operated with the minimum of energy consumption.
Our products are designed for long economic life. But R&D is a
continuing process, new technology is continuously on the way, and
future legislation to protect the environment will make even more
stringent demands. That is why the products Zickert offers today are
designed to take into account the environmental needs and water
treatment techniques of tomorrow.

sludge to be pumped and thus reduces energy consumption.

Easy to adapt for use in existing tanks

The design of the Z 2000 allows considerable latitude where
positioning of the hydraulic system or electric motor is concerned.
Whether drawn or propelled, the scraper will produce the same
results. It is even possible to position the hydraulic system’s cylinder
horizontally below the surface of the water, in which case the number
of moving parts is reduced from four to one.
Nor does the bottom of the tank need to be level for the Z 2000 to
produce good results. It should, however, be either horizontal or slope
towards the sludge pit.

Simple to install, simple to maintain

The design of the Z 2000 has been kept as straightforward as possible,
which means that it is simple to install. Components for standard
scrapers are always held in stock. A completely new standard scraper
can therefore be installed in the course of 2–3 weeks. The actual site
installation time is usually only 2–5 working days.
The maintenance required is minimal. The few moving parts and
small forces involved mean that the strains to which the scraper is
subjected are also small. There is relatively little friction between the
scraper and the bottom of the tank, since the sections run along strips
made of high-density polythene. The power required to drive the
scraper along the bottom of the tank is therefore very low. These
factors make for sensitive operation and long economic life.

and can even be installed in tanks with uprights in them. For further
suggestions tailored to meet individual requirements, please contact

Hydrodynamic design
The design of the sections has been arrived at as a result of extensive
scientific tests. Experiments in testing tanks have shown that the
concave format offers the optimum solution with different types of
sludge and at different speeds, and produces the best thickening
results. In other words, it combines the best hydrodynamic design
with the best sludge transportation solution.
The speed at which the scraper is operated is determined by the
type of sludge.

High-density polythene slides

The sections rest on either three or five steel bars, depending on the
width of the tank. They slide on longitudinal slides made of high-
density polythene. Wear is thus reduced to a minimum, and slides
usually have an economic life of about ten years.
The slides are supplied in lengths of 2 m. Fastening to the bottom
of a concrete tank is by means of spiked screws. Where the tank is
made of steel, fastening brackets are used and are welded to the
tank bottom.

No adaptation needed for

most tanks and bottoms
The design of the scraper makes very few demands of the condition of
the tank bottom. Even where the bottom slopes sideways or there are
longitudinal depressions, the Z 2000 will function satisfactorily.
The Z 2000 can also be adapted for use in tanks with varying widths.

Simple to install
The Z 2000 is simple to install, and only two men are required for the
job. No lifting devices or other complicated equipment are needed.
The total time taken to install a 20x6 m scraper is normally about a
week.

Assembly procedure
First the steel bars are laid out. The sections are then laid at right
angles to them, across the whole area of the tank. Once the sections
have been welded to the bars, the slides can be placed in position
under the bars and fastened to the tank bottom. The whole scraper is
centred before it is welded to its drawbar. The hydraulic unit or
electric motor is then positioned and connected, and the scraper
system dry-tested.

Hydraulically-powered scrapers
There are two different standard hydraulic units available for use with
the Z 2000. The single-motor unit is intended for use with single scra-
pers, and the double-motor unit for use with double installations.
The units are of low pressure type, and are fitted with manometers
and regulating valves that make it possible to adjust the speed of both
the forward and return movements. Outgoing pressure to the cylinder
is 20–70 bar, and can be read off on the manometer. Maximum press-
ure is set on delivery, with the help of the pressure limiter on the unit.
Hydraulic units require very little maintenance, and any main-
tenance that is required is easy to carry out.
All the components used are of standard type, which means that
any spare parts needed are readily available from local hydraulic
engineering suppliers.

Outdoor installation
Standard hydraulic units installed outdoors will function satisfactorily
in ambient temperatures of from +35˚C down to -20˚C. With ambient
temperatures of less than +10˚C a heating element should be used
(available as an optional extra).

Hydraulic oil
The hydraulic oil used is classed as environmentally acceptable. That
used in installations in drinking-water purification plants is classed as
non-hazardous.
The single-motor unit holds 70 l of oil, the double-motor unit 90 l.

Flexible positioning
Electric motors
Standard hydraulic units can be positioned up to 30 m from cylinders,
and the drive mechanism at the most convenient end of the tank. For tanks with surface areas of

Z 3900

Surface sludge scraper

The Z 3900 sludge scraper is designed for efficient removal of surface
sludge with a minimum of transportation water. It is suitable for use 1
in most applications in which surface sludge occurs, including both
local authority waste water treatment installations and industrial
process waste water treatment systems, and is easy to adapt for use in
flotation tanks or where lamella systems are in use. The scraper is
simple to install, is reliable in operation and has few moving parts.
The scraper blade draws off the whole of the tank’s surface, 2
transporting the sludge to a scum pipe or scum beach.
The Z 3900 is characterized by its step-by-step movement.
The drive bar moves forwards and returns, the blade being fastened to
a slide that is moved forward stage by stage by the drive bar. A system
of levers on the slide changes its direction of movement when it
reaches its end position. Thus it’s possible to install several blades in 3
series in one and the same tank, the sludge being passed from one
blade to the next on its way to the scum pipe. Each blade is angled
upwards 90˚during its return movement, to ensure that sludge does
not accompany it.

Rotating scum pipe

As its name suggests, the Z 6300 scum pipe is automatically angled or
rotated to the exact extent required to receive the sludge decanted by
the surface scraper. Its movement can be controlled by a water level
gauge in the tank itself.
The Z 6300 is best suited for use with sludge with a low total solids
content. With stable water levels it’s possible to remove the exact
sludge phase required.
The scum pipe is available in electrically or hydraulically powered
versions, or may be operated with the help of a manual lever. Instal-
lation is straightforward, and special embedment fittings are available
for securing it to the wall of the tank.
The Z 6300 is available in two sizes, with diameters of either 200 mm
or 300 mm. The materials used are 100 % stainless steel.

Fixed scum pipe

The Z 6500 is a fixed scum pipe with an adjustable forward edge or
‘lip’. When the lip is folded down inside the pipe, sludge passes into
the pipe over the lip.
Thanks to its angled bottom, the Z 6500 has high capacity, and is
particularly suitable for applications where sludge has a higher total
solids content.
The scum pipe is available in electrically or hydraulically powered
versions, or may be operated with the help of a manual lever. It can
be fitted close in to the end of a tank. Installation is straightforward.
A single working day is normally sufficient.
The Z 6500 is available in two sizes, with widths of either 200 mm or
300 mm. A sump can be included if required. The materials used are
100% stainless steel.

Scum beach
The Z 6900 scum beach can be fitted in either a concrete or a sheet
steel scum pipe on a permanent basis, and is best suited for use with
sludge with a high total solids content. It is usually used in flotation
applications.
A sump can be included if required. Dimensions in accordance
with individual specifications. The materials used are stainless steel.

Z 4000

FlocBee™
These unique static floc builders help to distribute water more evenly
throughout sedimentation tanks, eliminating dead zones and turbu-
lence. The damping effect contributes to rapid floc building before
sedimentation begins.
FlocBees are designed to be installed over sludge pits.
In the case of an installation in an existing circular tank, use is
made of the tank’s concrete structure, and only minor modifications
are normally necessary.
Where the tank in question is a circular one in course of construc-
tion, a straightforward steel structure in the centre of the tank can
be used to replace the more usual concrete one, and serves as the
FlocBee’s foundations.
A FlocBee soon pays for itself. The expenditure involved is less
than that for installing a conventional floc building unit with a
flocculation chamber and paddle.
There are no moving parts in FlocBees and no operating or main-
tenance costs. And better use is made of precipitating chemicals,
leading to direct savings.

Improved floc building

The rate of sedimentation is increased when a FlocBee or TurboFloc
is installed. This is because the flocs are already larger when they enter
the tank, thus increasing the tank’s total flocculating capacity. Higher
rates of flow are possible without the occurrence of sludge flight, even
under peak load conditions such as those following heavy rainfall.

Many applications
Z 4000 FlocBees have proven to be a success in a number of different
water treatment applications. They can be used in connection with
pre-precipitation, simultaneous precipitation, biological flocculation/
sedimentation and post-precipitation. They can also be used in
drinking-water purification plants and in industrial waste water treat-
ment processes where damping and/or improved flocculation are
required. The Z 4000 FlocBee consists of two cylinders, the bottom edge of the
outer one sealed against the walls of the central one. The central

Z 6600

Siphon
The Z 6600 Siphon sludge outlet device presents a system for continu-
ous removal of sludge from rectangular sedimentation tanks. It can
be used in tanks of all sizes, from very small ones to large ones for
post-sedimentation, and with flows of up to 750 m3/h. The Z 6600
Siphon has been in production since 1992.
The system works on the principle that a number of pipes are
positioned vertically across the width of a tank. By means of a siphon
effect, sludge is sucked up through the pipes and out into a sludge
duct common to them all. Capacity is controlled via an adjustable
spillway in the sludge duct. The outlet is positioned on one of the
longitudinal sides of the tank, so that two tanks can share the same
sludge duct. A supplementary air intake is available for applications
in which capacity is to be varied during operation, air ducts being
inserted at the bottom ends of the pipes and each pipe being fitted
with its own air valve.
Z 6600 Siphons are dimensioned for individual applications and
to meet customers’ specifications. The system is cost-effective and
requires a minimum of maintenance and service.

Eliminating the need for sludge pits

The Z 6600 Siphon can be used to advantage in tanks with no sludge
pits. Where the sludge has a low total solids content, it should be
transported following the downstream principle. To achieve optimum
