OBJECTIVES
Evaluate n-hexane and ethanol extracts of barks from Acacia dealbata (Ad), Acacia melanoxylon (Am),
Eucalyptus globulus (Eg) and Picea abies (Pa) regarding antioxidant potential and antimicrobial properties.

Conclusion
• This work shows the presence of compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in the
crude extracts of the four barks studied
• Ethanol extracts (rich in phenolic compounds) showed high antioxidant activity contrary to the apolar
extracts (low phenolic compounds) with very low antioxidant activity
• A. dealbata bark appears to be the most interesting especially when regarding its ethanol extract,
showing a very high extraction yield and very high antioxidant and antimicrobial activities
• The n-hexane Eg and Ad bark extracts presented a very good fungal growth inhibition.
