DIRECTING

Answer:

A schedule is a time table showing planned work days in shifts for nursing personnel so

that patient care is assured. A desirable distribution of off duty days can be achieved and individual

members of the nursing team will feel that they are treated fairly. They will also know their

schedule in advance. Today we follow a time table and groups. For example, 7-3, 3-11. And the

staffs tell me in advance if they have appointments or meetings so I can schedule their offs first.

All of us have contributions in making the plan, the staffs say it in advance if they have prior

meetings or agenda and I will be the one to make the plan and our head will check it. In terms of

factors in planning the schedule there are some such as adequate coverage for 24 hour and seven

days a week the shift of the staff should be complete also with staggered vacations, holidays and

weekends. Weekends are scheduled in such a way that everyone gets a fair share of rest. The

floaters also are a factor in case of any emergencies and the adequate mix of nurses and nursing

attendants should be observed so that they only assume legally responsibilities according to their

position, education, training and experience.

I supervise my subordinates as often as possible and I delegate tasks to them if I know that

they have the ability to do it and it the same time I also assist them. Delegating helps the

organization to be more efficient and helps leaders identify who are best suited to tackle tasks or

projects, develop their skills and gain knowledge. In uniting staffs, every 3rd Saturday of the month

we have a party or get together so that we can get to know each other more and just to relax.

In communication, we use the downward flow of communication wherein the flow comes

from higher to lower. For example, if I ask for a leave on that day the staff nurse 1 will first come
to me and then I’ll be the one who will communicate to our chief nurse. In terms of barriers we

haven’t encountered it yet as well as in violating rules and because we treat everyone here like

siblings. But in every organization there will always be a conflict. But just minor problems such

as difference in values or beliefs, personality clashes, poor performance or misunderstandings. So

we just deal it by talking or if I know that some of them are not in good terms my strategy is I will

schedule them in the same shift so that they will have no choice but to talk. Since we are in the

same organization good communication and camraderie is important factor.

The chief nurse do the final say after gathering some ideas from the senior nurse or nursing

staffs. But she consider several factors such as asking for opinions or advise, the result and lasty

the pros and cons.

Analysis:

Directing is said to be a process in which the managers instruct, guide and oversee the

performance of the workers to achieve predetermined goals. It is the function which is the starting

point of the work performance of subordinates and from this the action takes place, subordinates

understand their jobs and do according to the instructions laid.

In order for the organization to function well good directing of plans and proper schedulling

must be implemented. As for Marcos District Hospital they have a schedule which is proper with

the number of staffs as well as activities within the hospital. The staffs also get to enjoy day offs

fairly and have gatherings once in a while which is very important for the staffs to feel secured

and to promote effective and efficient yet enjoyable working environment. In terms of delagating

the senior nurse ensures that she delagates tasks once in a while mainly for task to be done efficient

but also to give them indepth training and knowlede.

personal life and everything that falls in between. Good communication skills are essential to allow

others and yourself to understand information more accurately and quickly. And the staffs at the

Marcos District Hospital have it as evidenced by minor conflicts in their organization, good

LEADERSHIP ABILITIES

Answer:
An effiecient leader is someone who influences and inspire subordinates to achieve their

goals and a leader should first become a follower in order to become a good leader. And one must

have the commitment and passion.

In terms of leadership style it is both democratic and transformational leadership.

Democratic because it is a two way relationship and transformational because we are working for

the needed change of this organization.

In my opinion a leader is someone who sets the direction and take risks for the organization

menawhile a manager manages the entire organization and expects control. While the values and

beliefs that prevails in this organization are integrity, ethics respect and doing the right thing. If

there is one thing that we want to change is that this organization resist to change.

Analysis:
