VIDEO PROCCESS 2

Video, Process, and Audience Essay

Purpose

The purpose of the video created is to inform all parents interested in the Dual Language

Program offered at the Kennewick School District and surrounding areas. This video will help

our future Dual Language Parents visualize how to find specific information about this program

and how this program can be an enrichment experience and high-quality education for their

students. Also, the process of creating, editing and publishing this video will be further explained

in this process essay.

Audience

The specific audience for this product is Parents in the Kennewick School District as well

as parents residing in the surrounding areas. The majority of target families include white

English speaking, or other Language speaking. Even though our DL program is meant to be for

English and Spanish speaking students, our Hispanic families are not the main audience because

we tend to have a higher enrollment rate for Hispanic students than White students. Very often,

our new Kindergarten parents feel skeptical about enrolling their kids in a Dual Language

program. I have found out that they will benefit from more information that includes visuals,

guidance, and advice from other DL patents. This video will begin by giving a quick explanation

based on research about all the different language models. It will also give a short tutorial on

how to access our KSD website, which has all the information parents will need to help them

make the best decision when choosing the Dual Language Program for their young kids.

Software

The software I chose to use for this project was Screencastify 2013. It is a free screen

recording tool that gives you a simple free membership when you use google chrome. You can

upload, edit or share videos within seconds. This software was able to record my presentation

and voice with clarity. Once the video was finished, I was able to edit, name, and share it using

my YouTube channel. I also had other options to share this video. I could share it using google

share drive or download it as an mp3 file. I decided to use this software for three reasons. The

first reason I was familiar with it. In the past, I had to use Screencastify before to create

educational videos successfully. Also, I used this software because of its ease and simplicity. The

final product is clear, clean, and easy to follow and understand. It took only seconds to hit the

button and share the final product. The third reason why I chose this software is that it is free to

access. Other software could be expensive to purchase, difficult to set up, and time-consuming to

figure it out, which a teacher often does not have time to do so. Screencastify is simple to

manage, costless, effective, and is something I would use in my classroom.

Process

These were all the steps I took during the process of planning, creating this media

product, and editing to upload it and share it on my website.

a. Creating the Storyboard: First, once I decided to do a video tutorial as my media

product I began with the first stage in this process. This first stage started with

planning a storyboard as a way to organize me and have a visual aid to guide me

during the recording process. To complete my storyboard I typed

www.storyboardthat.com on the search engine. Once on the home web page, I clicked

on the orange button "create a storyboard'. It was really simple to create a storyboard.

a. Step one: pick the format of your storyboard. In my case, I chose the six

squares array.

b. Step two: Choose a background. I decided to choose a school/classroom

background because this video relates to an educational setting and also

because I completed this video in my classroom.

c. Step three: I choose a character. I decided to choose a female character

because it will represent me. It was fun and simple to play around and change

the hair color, and clothes. I pick the options that will represent me.

d. Step four: Add the text box to add the script of the video. Once I was satisfied

with the background and character, I started to add a text box to every section

of the storyboard. After that, I typed what I would do in each step starting with

the upper left square as an introduction and continue to the right and bottom to

follow the order of my video.

e. Step five: In this last step I click on the bottom right side blue save button. It

took me to my saving options, where I selected Save As PDF on my

documents folder. I printed a hard copy to have next to me as a reference

when recording my video.

2. Creating the Video: Once I completed my storyboard, I began with the process of

recording my media product. First, I downloaded the Screencastify app by searching

www.screencastify.com on my Google Chrome search engine. I then created a free

account with Screencastify, which will allow me to record, upload, and edit 5-minute

videos. I added a short link in the google chrome tool taskbar for easy access. The

Screencastify icon is a small orange arrow pointing to the right with a camera symbol

inside.

3. I did a couple of rehearsals. I walked through the steps to use the storyboard. The purpose of

this was to verify that there will be no connecting issues since the main focus of the tutorial was

to teach parents how to navigate on an actual website. By doing this step I notice It would take

about 40-50 seconds to download the 2019 Informational Brochure, so what I did was to

download it beforehand and have it ready in my computer's tool taskbar so that I can pull up and

avoid a 40-50 second gap.

4. Once I felt comfortable with the process I begun with the recording process. I pulled up the

Language Model graph (W. Thomas, V. Collier, 2001-2009) so that it was ready to begin

recording my video.

a. Step 1: I clicked the Screencastify link on my google chrome taskbar. Then, I

selected the option of showing the whole view of the computer screen. I also hit

the options; allow the use of a microphone and computer camera to record images

and voice.

b. Once all the settings mentioned above enabled, I hit the start recording option.

The Screencastify gives you 5 seconds to get ready before it stars recording you.

You will hear a bell-like sound counting 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Once it rings the last bell, it

will begin recording.

c. By using my Storyboard as a reference I was able to follow all the steps I wanted

to be demonstrated in the video. I began by introducing myself. Then I briefly

talked about the research of why Dual Language is a great program for students

by making reference to the research graph by W. Thomas and V. Coiller. The next

steps include demonstrating a short step by step tutorial on how to access the KSD

website and access information about the dual program we offer by teaching the

audience how to download the 2019 informational brochure and important contact

information.

d. Once finished recording I hit the stop casting orange button. The video

immediately uploads to my Screencastify webpage, where I edit some sections of

it. For example by cutting some unnecessary gaps throughout the video.

e. The following step was to upload the video to my YouTube channel. This process

was very simple because Screencastify has an option where you hit the share

button and choose where you want your video to be shown. The options include;

YouTube, Google Share Drive, Download as an MP3 file. In my case, I chose to

be shared on my YouTube Chanel and create a share link for people to be able to

access it directly.

f. The last step in the process was to embed my final product (video) on my Weebly

webpage. I log in to my Weebly account and went to my webpage, where I hit the

edit option and choose the resources/Recursos page. Once in there I scrolled down

the options to find the “Add a Youtube Video" I typed the link of my video and

within seconds a window link to my video was uploaded on my webpage. Finally,

I hit the publish button on my Webbly so that all changes would be saved. Saved a

copy that shows this step as a PDF for task submission purposes.

These were all the steps I took to design, plan, create and upload my final product. It was

a definitively fun and exciting learning process.
