DAILY PLAN
Lesson Title: Colorfully Patterned Creatures Grade Level: Kindergarten

S & S Statements:
Students will create patterns on their previous creature sculpture. Patterns relate to other subjects such
as math. This also connects to patterns on animals in nature and their own clothing.

Concepts and Skills

Students will learn about what makes a pattern and types of patterns. Skills are being able to apply
paint onto sculpture and create patterns.

Academic Language:
Pattern, repeat, shapes, and color.

Purpose of Lesson (Overall Lesson Objective):

Given back their sculptures and paint students will paint patterns that they create or found in nature by
thinking about shapes, colors, and repetitiveness.(VA: Cr2.1.K)

Learning Objectives (List National Standard(s):

Assessment Criteria: I will assess them on how well they repeated shapes/colors to create a pattern

Teaching Resources Needed to Support the Lesson:

PowerPoint
Projector

Art Materials Necessary for the Lesson:

Paint
Brushes
Cups(water)
Previous sculptures
Paper (to keep area clean)
Scratch paper to practice patterns

Critical Comments and Reflections:
(Problems, successes, differentiated learners, and what to think about for next lesson)
The main problem for this lesson is that we ran out of time to complete their patterns. Students did a
well job of painting their creatures one base color. I also believe it is a bit more difficult for students to
create detailed patterns on their creatures because of the size constraint. Another thing is that Mrs.
Cox was already having trouble with certain students earlier before art started so she tended to get
upset and quick tempered with them when they would act up. I was not bothered as much since I
wasn’t having much trouble with them to begin with. But it makes me think about maybe moving these
certain students to different spots so that they can stop distracting each other.
