A Summary Report of the February 25, 2020


C F S D Governing Board Meeting

Approval of New Policy IHAMD, Instruction and


Training in Suicide Prevention (second reading)
Dr. Conery presented the second reading of the
proposed new policy. The policy is in response to the
passage of Senate Bill 1468 by the Arizona Legislature
that added statute A.R.S. 15-120 which requires school
districts to start instruction and training in suicide
prevention in the 2020-2021 school year. Dr. Conery
reviewed the language in the new policy that replicates
the major points of the new statute. She reported that
CFSD staff have already been trained. The board
approved the new policy, as presented.

Approval of Revisions to High School Spanish


Pathways 2020-2021

changes to high school courses for implementation in

scenarios to reduce class sizes. The board provided
feedback and asked for more information on a scenario
to reduce class sizes in grades K-2.

on funding proposals and bills making their way through

2020 Arizona Legislative / Governmental Activity


Board Members discussed information on a few
potentially new 2020 legislative bills. Specifically,
Senate Bill 1060 that would increase funding for special
education and Senate Bill 1357 on parent review of
instructional materials. Also discussed was the Anti-
Sanctuary Bill that was amended to include “any political
subdivision.”
