IPO SPECIFICATIONS
They apply to every parts delivered in cardboard packaging to IPO CKD warehouse.
They are an integral part of purchase agreement between the supplier and RENAULT Purchase
Department.
2/ GENERAL POINTS
Supplying parts to IPO warehouses (01148, 01149, 01248, 01249, 01270, 01271, 01275, 01152 and
01153) requires to use a dedicated packaging that allows to load directly from reception into an ISO HC
(High Cube) container.
The packaging has to meet all the requirements of the parts and the transportation, just as the regulations
of IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) code shipment.
Every time a same reference is assigned to an IPO warehouse, the supplier has always to deliver the
same number of parts in the same packaging.
3/ MODULE-TYPE PACKAGING
The supplier is in charge of choosing module packagings and has to respect the mechanical
characteristics of these specifications.
3.2 MODULE KITS : 4C, 4H, 3P, 3G, 4G, 3E, 2E, 8L, 4L, 5K and 9K
See Annex 2 pages 14 to 39
The design of the 4C, 4H, 3P, 3G, 4G, 3E, 2E and 9K cardboard kits is as follows:
- Perimetrical wooden pallet, 4 entries (except 4C module) in accordance with n.15 NIMP
- Kits with or without leaf according to the model
- Semiamerican-type cardboard covering
- Inner belt
- Lid
Every kind of KITS has to be written down on the packaging and on the belt in order to visually identify
them. Regarding kits with leaf, the leaf has to be identified with a black marking.
In order to achieve to get Vertical Compression Strength, the cardboard box has to be stapled on the
pallet and another pallet (similar to the tested KIT) has to be superposed on the packaging.
µ Module closing:
We require, according to the supplier means, to:
µ Strip position:
The strips can not be positioned under the pallet.
PVC and metallic strips are prohibited.
The strip has to be closed either by welding or with a plastic staple.
The mean of closing has to be homogeneous to the ring material.
Cardboard wedges may be placed at the angles between the cardboard box and the strip.
REMARKS:
3G, 4G, 2E and 3E modules may only be used when the part can’t be packed in 3P or 4H modules.
Concerning 4C module, it is only used for small number delivered parts.
40 to 09 modules have the same configuration and minimal and mechanical characteristics as the standard
GALIA 1 packaging. see Annex 3 page 40
We exceptionnaly allow to use these cardboard boxes, provided that the part is about 1000 mm for 08 to
05 GALIA type cardboard boxes and 1200 mm for 04 and and 03 GALIA type cardboard boxes.
These cardboard boxes can be exceptionnaly used with the agreement of the Ingineering Department.
In some cases, the cardboard packaging usually made for deliveries to any plant may be suitable for ILN
IPO shipments.
4/ DEDICATED PALLETS
@ Maritime pine or another wood with the same minimal mechanical features as BS category.
(C.T.B.A. “Les Résineux Français” JUNE 1986 manual)
4.3 PALLETIZATION
GALIA standards for 40 to 05 cardboard boxes (non-returnable pallet Dim 1200 x 1000 in accordance
with n. 15 Nimp).
The delivery must be palletized every time the packaging number allows to constitute a layer.
All the cardboard boxes can be put together on the pallet (DIM 1140 X 950) and immovably attached by
a cover or a strip.
The successive layers should be stacked. The stacked piling-up guarantees a better vertical compression
strength.
The mono reference unit so constituted should not exceed an overall 850 mm height or 800 Kg.
Several references packed in 40, 16 to 05 cardboard boxes can be placed on the same pallet.
5/ WEIGHING - IDENTIFICATION
LABELLING
Every cardboard module, unit (UC = packaging unit) or part of a palettized load, must be weighed and
identified.
The labels must meet the GALIA standards (ETI 1 or ETI 9 GALIA standard) Annex 3 page 40
µ Location.
6/ MARKING
All the cardboard packagings delivered to the IPO warehouses (01148, 01149, 01248, 01249, 01270,
01271, 01275, 01152 et 01153) should be stamped:
µ LNE according to the C18 or C27 Technical rule. See Annex 4 page 42
or foreign equivalent one.
Furthermore, the RENAULT brandname should be printed in the middle of the two widest faces of the
4C, 4H, 3P, 3G, 4G, 3E, 2E, 8L and 4L type modules.
See Annex 4 page 42
The minimum height has to be 130 mm.
7/ TRANSPORTATION - STORAGE
The total height stacked for transportation or storage (including the lower load) should not exceed 2550
mm.
During transportation, the modules can stand 750 kg maximal dynamic load.
Concerning modules weighing more than 500 kg, it is necessary and imperative to add 4 cardboard
corners in the angles between the cover and the belt.
8/ PROTECTION - QUALITY
All the metallic, mechanical and electrical parts should be protected (example: Types of protection). See
Annex 5 page 44
Moreover, the parts that already get a special protection for standard deliveries will keep it.
Protections and packagings will take into account transportation (road, rail, sea, air), handling and storage
conditions. See maximal figures. See Annex 7 page 46
Modules delivered by suppliers won’t suffer any change when arriving at IPO warehouses.
Parts will keep their initial package till the countries they’re bound for.
Every supplier must take into account these specifications in order to define the packaging and protection
form that fits to its product.
The packaging must guarantee the quality of the parts against impacts and distortions (mechanical or
thermal constraints) as much as oxidization.
This definition may drive the supplier to question the packaging choice made by GRAND-COURONNE
Ingineering Department.
The supplier has to communicate the new packaging elements. The analysis of his proposal, as well as
tests and/or a study of profitability if necessary, will allow to deliver the part by IPO system.
The supplier writes down the corresponding Logistical Conditions Sheet (A.R.P.E. that is a packaging
part referential implementation) (See sheet Annex 8 page 47), (imperatively mention the unitary part
weight). He sends one copy of the Sheet to the purchaser and another one to RENAULT Grand-Couronne
plant Ingineering Department with a packaging sheet (cycle and period of preparation of the Logistical
Conditions Sheet See Annex 9 page 48).
RENAULT Grand-Couronne plant Ingineering Department is disposed to give a Technical Aid in order to
define the packaging every time a supplier will need it (Prototype validation. See Annex 10 page 50).
This aid can not question the final responsibility of the supplier with regard to these parts, from
quantitative as well as qualitative point of view.
9/ OPERATIONAL LOGIC
Date 06 / 12 / 04 Reference : 29300 / 04 / ML / MC Page : 9/53
Update 15 / 05 / 05
IPO SPECIFICATIONS
µ Objectives:
YKeeping the same packaging for each part since its manufacturing until its use on the assembly
workstation.
10/ IMPLEMENTATION
µ For every part ordered by IPO warehouses (01148, 01149, 01248, 01249, 01270, 01271, 01275, 01152
et 01153), RENAULT Grand-Couronne plant Ingineering department shooses a packaging that allows to
convert our customers (Foreign Assembly Plants) order into a RENAULT classical delivery order.
µ A new reference on the 01148, 01149, 01248, 01249, 01270, 01271, 01275, 01152 and 01153 delivery
orders which packaging hasn’t been defined by both the supplier and RENAULT Grand-Couronne plant
Ingineering Department, must activate the following procedure: See. Logistical Conditions Sheet route.
See Annex 9 page 48
Y Copy to the purchaser of RENAULT Purchase Department, in charge of the part, of the
"supplementary cost" of packaging in order to get an order number that is dedicated to the IPO
warehouses (01148, 01149, 01248, 01249, 01270, 01271, 01275, 01152 et 01153).
The costs for sending the parts back will be invoiced to the responsible of the litigation
(supplier or carrier).
NOTA: If the delivery cannot be done by container usual shipment, the cost to
send by plane to the foreign assembly plant will be invoiced to the responsible of the
litigation (supplier or carrier).
Y Letter of commitment of compliance respecting IPO warehouses deliveries to send us back duly
filled (see Annex 11 page 52), to RENAULT Grand-Couronne plant Supplier Quality Department
(SQF), Dept. 1110 Fax : 02 32 66 38 47
RENAULT Grand-Couronne plant Supplier Quality Department is in charge to check, by audit, that the
supplier meets the requirements (29300 / 04) and the recommendations written down by RENAULT
Grand-Couronne plant Ingineering Department.
The Supplier Quality Department writes a return sheet whenever a delivery does not meet these
requirements.
For your own information, see Annex 12 page 53 a list of suppliers of packaging materials.
