Narration: During the time of Rizal, the sinister shadows of spain decadence darkened Philippines skies.
The Filipino people agonized beneath the yolk of Spanish misrule for they were unfortunate victims of
the evils of an unjust bigoted & deteriorating colonial power.

Narration: the frequent change of colonial official hampered the political * economic development of
the Philippines.
(Rally)
People: Restore the Philippines representation! Give them back! Give them back! Restore!
People: We want representation in the legislative chamber so that our aspirations maybe known to the
mother country & to the government
(strict voice)
L: they are not worthy of our help! Phew! Let them suffer
Narration: Until the end, the Spanish representation was never restored.
(Teaching) N: We are the Spanish missionaries! Brothers and sisters, we are all equal in the eyes of God.

(transition) P: But, why is this happening? Our land is still raging? We Filipinos suffer a lot, we are being
brutalized & work to death, meanwhile the whites living their lives w/ less punishments. How could a
child of God turn his back on his brothers & sisters! How could they?
(transition) Q: Senior! Listen to us, why can’t we work together? Why can’t we unite?
Q: We are brothers and sisters, brown or white. We are all the children of God.
Spaniards: You belong to your own blood; consider them your brothers and sisters.
Narration: The Spanish penal code which was enforced in the Phil. Imposed heavier penalties on native
Filipinos & lighter penalties on white. By that, it signifies that every person not born white is in fact a
latent criminal. In short, brown Filipinos & white Spaniards maybe equal before God but not the law &
certainly not in practice.
RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
Spanish: Tonta! You Filipinos aren’t worthy. You’re totally different from us, you deserve to be chained
& treated maliciously.
R: Ioloca! You brown people are undeserving of the rights 8 priveleges that we enjoyed.
Narration: Racial prejudice were preavalent everywhere in gov’t offices, in the court of justice, in the
armed forces, in the social circles & even in the educational institutions & the ecclesiastical hierarchy.
Spaniard soldier: Why are you sitting like that? You’re supposed to work
(transition)
Wives: We are paying taxes, then they’re not allowing our husbands to come home? How unjustice they
could be!
Wife 2: And my husband didn’t receive the exact pay. Poor Him!
(transition)
Upper official: I order you white soldiers to command the browned people dig ditches, build more
churches & construct new roads. All of the dirty joins you could think of.
Soldiers: Si senor
