CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Computer technology is on its way to modernization as the generation changes year by
year.From a simple device to a high speed and multi-tasking, the technology comes and still
getting further. Modern technology has benefited students, teachers and the institution itself.
Student’s academic and personal record is a vital part of education system. Most of the
students nowadays are depending to the technology for setting them to easily access all the
resources. Computer system helps teachers and students to make fast and progressive reports.
In today’s digital age, online access of grades can be notified through electronic transcript
application.
In Marinduque State College Boac campus, the distribution of FRG (Final Report of
Grades) from the Registrar Office causes some problem. In the existing system, college
students encounter delay receiving the report from the set time of release and the accumulation
of crowd totally gives them headache. In the case of Senior High School students, since the
enrollees in the school increases every year, it is difficult for the staff to file reports from the
office of Laboratory School since they also use manual process in their transaction. To
disseminate records also takes time and effort.
Thus, Online Access of Grades will be developed which will help speed up the process
of handling the grades of the Senior High School students of Marinduque State College. The
system will lessen the time wasted from keeping the records manually.

According to Arekete, S. (2013), the design and development of a Web-based
Student’s Records Management System is a full-feature of information system that enable
records from student’s personal, academic, health and personal data that the student will
continue to grow and increasing year after year. The manual processing of academic transcript
which may takes a several weeks to ask a copy but by the help of Web-Based Student’s
Records Management System the copy of students records last for a minute. The same with
Online Access of Grades, processing of copy of student records will last for a minute as it is
made to do so.
FromCabanit R. (2015), the UC CICS Web-based Class Records provides an online
class recording system where the system can be accessed wither publicly via Internet
connection or privately through LAN. To access the Class Recording System, the system
provides customized access mode for the dean, teachers, parents and students the system
provides respective viewing mode for one of them. In Online Access of Grades, managing the
records of the students is also in the hand of the teachers who holds the section. They input the
data and the students could easily monitor their academic records in just a click.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Online Access of Grades will be developed as an information system to lessen the
wasted time and effort by the institution concerning the dissemination of cards of the Senior
High School in Marinduque State College. It intends to give good service to both students and
teachers. Thus, this research sought to answer the question:
1. What is the level of effectiveness of the website in terms of design/ appearance?

Figure 1 shows the different process of the proposed system. The input stage consists
of software requirements and knowledge requirements. Knowledge requirements are scripting
language, designing and programming. Software requirements areSublime Text for coding and
Google Chrometo preview ofthe design.
Process stage follows the prototyping methodology. It includes the following
specification and program development.
The output will be potential website ofOnline Access of Grades for the Senior
Highschool in Marinduque State College.

1.3 SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The “Online Access of Grades for Senior High School in Marinduque State College:
Measuring the Level of Effectiveness” is capable of adding and removing name of students,
andediting and updating student’s record on a database. The system could generate and
produce print-out information of the final grades every end of the semester as well as saving it
as PDF file.
In generating grades of pupils, only the adviser of each classcould input the final grade
in each grading period at the end of the semester.The developed system will provide security
from unauthorized access in both students and teacher’s account by providing a password.
However, the system will only show the design or appearance of the website,
functionality is not included.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is beneficial for the following:
Senior High School students. Since the enrolless of the school increases, the record of grades
of the Senior Highschool students has also been increasing. It takes time listing all the datas
manually. With this proposal, they won’t be able to experience the delay the former students
came across.

Advisers. The system will lessen the time consumed by the advisers during the recording of
grades and updating it in much convenient and quicker way and it will provide security of
records from unauthorized access.
Institution. The proposed system will benefit Marinduque State College as it may serve as a
stepping stone to provide quality service.
Researchers. Web programming may not be their field of specialization but they could apply
and enhance their knowledge and skills concerning developing an Information System and it
may lead them to be aWeb Programmer someday.
Future researchers. This will serve as guide for future researchers who will work on related
studies after it has been approved, and documented.

Chapter 2
METHODOLOGY
This chapter includes the research design, the sample, the instruments, the data
collection procedure, and the plan for data analysis.
2.1 Research Design
Online access of grades is made to provide an easy access of grades online specifically
for the Senior Highschool.In order to generate a design, the researchers would apply the
experimental type of research for data gathering. The researchers believe that this is an
effective way in conducting the study in order to gather data in a specific range of
time.Prototyping methodology will be used to design and develop a computerized system.
2.2 The Sample
The target populations of the study are the Senior High School students and advisers of
Marinduque State College Boac Campus respectively from each strand.
There are four hundred ninety-seven (497) students from Grade 11 while Grade 12 has
three hundred fifty-three (353) students which results to a total of eight hundred fifty (850)
Senior High School students.
There are a total number of nineteen (19) advisers of each Senior High School class.
The total population of the respondents is eight hundred and sixty nine (869).

SAMPLING SCHEME
The researchers will use Slovin’s formula to get the sample from the total population.

Using the formula 1+𝑁𝑒2 , the researchers come up with the calculation as stated below.
CALCULATION FOR STUDENTS
Eighty-nine (89) students were selected out of eight hundred fifty (850) Senior
Highschool students: fifty-four (54) from Grade 11 whilethirty-five (35) from Grade 12. The
total number of respondents each strand is shown in the table below.

CALCULATION FOR TEACHERS
From the formula given, out of nineteen (19) advisers, sixteen (16) were chosen to be
the respondents.
2.3 The Instrument(s)
The project is divided into three (3) areas: Projet Planning Procedure, Feasibility
Analysis Procedure, and System Design and Development Procedure.
Feasibility Analysis Procedure
In order to determine whether the system would be feasible or not, feasibility analysis
will be conducted. It will be conducted at Marinduque State College with the selected Senior
High School students and advisers.To gather information, the researcherswill prepare a
questionnaire and will conduct a series of interviewto analyze whether the developed system
was feasible or not.
Project Planning Procedure
The researchers had conducted an ocular observations and interviews in Marinduque
State College to determine what issues most likely need to be solved.The researchers found
out that the institution uses manual process in the dissemination of cards in Senior High
School,so they decided to propose an online access of grades to lessen the time and effort
wasted of the said organization.

The researchers performed brainstorming to organize all the activities. The researchers
studied first what design should be done before anything else. Accurate time management is
highly needed to avoid some problems concerning the designing of the proposed system on
the limited time. The availability of the respondents and all concerned persons should be
noticed for the flow to go well as planned.
System Design and Development Procedure
In developing the system, prototyping methodology will be used to design and develop
a computerized system. With this, the users will get a better understanding of the system being
developed and they can quickly give feedbacks which leads to better solutions.
Sublime Text will be used as platform to design the interface of the websitewhile
Google Chrome will be used to preview the design.
2.4 Data Collection Procedure
To facilitate the data gathering in compliance to the study, the researchers will prepare
a questionnaire and will conduct a series of interview to the selected Senior High School
students and advisers of Marinduque State College. The survey that will be handled by the
researchers will include series of questionnaires to identify the needed information for the
design interface of the online access of grades. The availability of the respondents and all
concerned persons should be noticed to avoid redundancy.

2.5 Plan for Data Analysis
The researchers will use specific to general method in analyzing the answers of the
respondents. The researchers choose this method in order to elaborate the detail and answer of
the respondents in the survey. After collecting the data gathered, the results of the interview
and survey will be tallied. The researchers will then analyze the data in order to determine
whether the system would be feasible or not.

Log-in only features the home page. Log-in are for the Senior Highschool students and
advisers of the said school. The users must provide their own irreplaceable password for the
security of their records. There is a checkbox wherein the user shall click on whether he/ she is
a student or teacher.

The main process are adding and removing students, and editing ang updating grades.
Select Subject dropdown links to option where the teacher selects the subjects his/her students
enrolled. Add student button on the right side let the teacher add another pupil while on the
left side lies the remove student button. The checkbox before the last name of the student
marks the names of the students to easily remove them from the list.
Below the Action are the Edit, Preview and Update icons. The Edit icon lets the
teacher enter the grades of the students in the selected subject. The Preview icon views the
student’s form while the Update button updates the form once the editing is done.
