e. plants absorb carbon dioxide gases during photosynthesis process.

Section C

Waste products from factories

The unfilted smoke released by factories contain soot and acidic gases. Like sulphur
dioxide and oxides of nitrogen are detrimental to help and the ecosystem. The soot or
carbon particles can cover the leaves of plants and trees and thus reduce
photosynthesis leading to low crops yields.

c. The control measures taken by the government are as follows:

• The implementation of rules and regulation such as Environmental Quality Act
1974.
• Educating the public on the important of protecting and caring for the
environment through mass media and various environmental campaigns.
• In schools, children learn the importance of preserving the balance of nature in
subjects like Environmental Studies, General Science, Geography and
Biology.
