Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study

This study shows that some of the school teachers and students are still not
familiar of our new technology, the Microsoft Excel. Base from the current state of
technology with the aid of manual processes such as calculators, pen, and record book.

1.2 Statement of the objective

1.2.1 General Objective

To design, develop and implement a Computer Aided instruction in

Microsoft Excel

This Computer Aided Instruction will provide help, assistance and

additional knowledge for the teachers and students on how to use the features
of Microsoft Excel. It will help the teachers and the students to be familiar with
the use and functionalities of Microsoft Excel through the tutorials contained by
Computer Aided Instruction or CAI.

1.2.2 Specific Objective

To design, develop and implement a module that will help the teachers and
students to be familiar with Microsoft Excel Interface

Having this tutorial, it will help the teachers and students to be familiar
with the interface of Microsoft Excel.

To design, develop and implement a module that will help the teachers and
students to learn the basic functionalities of Microsoft Excel such as creating
tables and inserting pictures

Computer Aided Instruction in Microsoft Excel has a tutorial module

about designing worksheet through creating tables and inserting pictures.

To design, develop and implement a module that will teach the teachers and
students on how to make graphs and charts which can be useful in teaching and
reporting

This Computer Aided Instruction contains tutorials about the

effectiveness of Microsoft Excel in graphs and charts.
1.3 Significance of the study

This study will show how to help the teachers and students to be more familiar
with the interface of Microsoft Excel, it will help the teachers and students to lessen the
effort and save more time. With the help of this system the teachers and students will
not use the manual processes of technology such as calculators, pen, and record book
but will use the Microsoft Excel instead.

1.4 Scope and limitation

1.3.1 Scope

1.3.1.1 log-In Module

The system will have a module that requires the user account and
password in order to access main processes of CAI.

1.3.1.2 Main Interface

This module provides button for the selection of various task. In this
form, the user can view the main processes of CAI, such as exploring the
tutorials.

1.3.1.3 Tutorial Module

This module is the main part of CAI. It allows the user to explore the
tutorials about Microsoft Excel. It contains the following Chapters, Lessons and
Topics.

1.3.1.6 Account Maintenance

The system will have a module that enquires user account and
password; it is design to validate these username and password that open
corresponding module.

1.3.1.7 About Module

This module contains the basic information about the developers.

1.3.2 Limitation

Even though our system can contribute knowledge for the teachers and
students it still has its limitation such as

 The Computer Aided Instruction only focuses on 2013 version of

Microsoft Excel
 The content of Computer Aided Instruction is not maintainable

1.5 Implementation

This phase involves testing, which is bringing all of the system in to a special
testing environment to test for errors and bugs to verify that the system meets all the
requirements.

The developers checked the system modules if it does perform the required
processes. In this stage, the developers will test every module of the system in order to
ensure its performance and function. The developers will trap all the possible errors to
be encountered. The developers validated and debugged all the errors that have been
encountered during the testing of the system.
Chapter 2 METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY

Methodology of the study identifies the formula method that the developers intend to
follow in order to accomplish what have been set in the objectives.

The methodology is used in the project is a Rapid Application Development (RAD),

where it is a software development methodology that involves methods like iterative
development and software prototyping. It is merger of various structured techniques, especially
data-driven information engineering. Rapid application development is a term originally used to
describe a software development process introduced by James Martin in 1991. Martin’s
methodology involves iterative development and the construction of prototypes. More recently,
the term and its acronym have come to be used in a broader, general sense that encompasses a
variety of methods aimed at speeding application development, such as the use of software
frameworks of varied types, such as web application framework. Rapid application development
promotes fast, efficient, accurate program and tutorial development and delivery. Compared to
other methodologies, RAD generally improves user/designer communication, user cooperation,
and user commitment, and promotes better documentation.
