Allah in Himself
Passage No. 1: Ayat ul Kursi (2:255)
The main theme of this passage which is known as “The Verse of the Throne” is the Oneness and
Unity of Allah i.e. Tawheed. In this verse He has introduced Himself by telling about His nature
and some of His exalted attributes. He is the being Who is unlike other beings and does not have
any demerit. He neither gets tired nor takes a nap. He is perfect in His attributes. “And there is
none like Him.”He knows everything and He can do everything. Even a little knowledge is only
what He Himself allows man to attain. In fact nothing ever happens without His will. He does not
have any relation with any one as said in Surah Ikhlas: “He does not beget nor is He begotten.”
Kursi refer to His Throne which denotes His Supremacy of Power and control over all His
creatures. He is beyond human imagination. Although He has no physical appearance, but it is
assumed that He is residing on His Throne.
1. Tawhid and some of the attributes specific to God alone.
2. Allah is different to humans as He neither sleeps nor slumbers
3. The theme of the throne symbolises His majesty
4. His uniqueness, knowledge and power
He is the only one who can make decisions about His creation, as He has knowledge over all
things (b) This passage teaches the Muslims to have firm belief in the powers of Allah as He the
self-subsisting Master. They should not be inspired of the powers of anyone else as He is holds the
entire kingdom. All what they possessed is given to them by Allah and they are just the custodians.
On the day of Judgement nobody could save them from Allah’s anger except those who will be
permitted by Allah thus they should be watchful of their deeds. The Prophets, martyrs, Huffaz,
pilgrims and different other people and deeds will intercede. His throne has encompassed the entire
universe. This passage is very effective in protection and safety. It is said in Hadith that anyone
who will recite it before going to bed; Allah will protect him from all sorts of harmful things.
1. These verses allow Muslims to learn and understand something about God in a way
relevant to them.
2. It is a prayer for protection and is one of the best passages of the Qur’an
3. “Only the death is a veil between him and paradise who recites it after each Farz
prayer” (Hadith)
Passage No. 2: Surah al Anaam (6:101-103)
(a) These verses emphasize the concept of Tawheed -- the Absolute Oneness of Allah, the
Almighty and His matchless attributes. He is the only creator Who has created everything from
nothingness with His command Be. In Surah Ikhlas it is said: “He neither begets nor was He
begotten and there is no one like Him.” He is perfect and unique in His attributes. He has complete
control over all other worlds and He is beyond our perception. With this limited knowledge we
cannot comprehend His personality. The attributes of Allah discussed in this passage negate any
association of partners with Allah in any form.
1. Allah’s power and knowledge over all things.
2. It emphasises the theme of tawhid and impossibility of having a child without
wife
3. Allah is the only creator
4. He has the knowledge about all His creation
He is not perceivable and mankind (b) The wisdom Allah has given to us is to ponder and meditate
in His creation so that we should realize the purpose of our life i.e. to worship Allah only, to give
reverence to Him only and to lead a pious and chaste life. All the attributes and characteristics of
Allah guide man to accept Him as his Lord and worship Him alone. Demonstration of Allah’s
Sovereignty and unlimited knowledge require that we should follow all His commands as other
creations are obeying Him. When only He is the Creator and Ruler, so only He deserves to be
worshipped. It also invites us to use our intellectual knowledge to avoid all forms of shirk, which
is termed as the greatest of all sins.
1. Allah’s oneness tells Muslims not to ascribe partners to Him
2. Muslims should avoid relating the divine qualities to anybody else besides Him
3. His power over all affairs, tells Muslims that He is the only one who gives
provisions and protection
Passage No. 3: Surah Fussilat (41: 37)
(a) These verses discussed the Majesty and Creativity of Allah. Allah is the Creator of the whole
universe. He has not only created it all but running the whole system by His word and might. Quran
mentions, “To Him belongs the creation and the order”. The objects of the world prove the
existence of Allah. The system and harmony of these objects and the wonders of the world compel
to admit His Lordship. “Soon We will show them our signs in the horizons and in themselves, until
they will believe that He is a truth.” (Quran). Thus Muslims are required to believe in the
Sovereignty of Allah and worship him alone.
1. It teaches that the cosmic objects of the world are creation themselves
2. Allah is all powerful who has created these objects and carrying out the routine
of the night and day
3. Behind these objects the real power is of Allah
4. No other power can carry out or change this system
(b) Although the sun and moon are signs of wonder and awe, they are there to remind Muslims to
worship their Creator, not creation. This verse reminds Muslims to worship Him if they are sincere
in their goal to serve Him. Muslims should remember Him when they see these signs in creation,
by praying, supplicating or doing good actions, etc., which are a link between humans and God.
Therefore the Muslims should not believe in the objects of the universe but must believe in Allah’s
powers. They should obey Him in worship and other orders.
1. These objects of the world compel the Muslims to admit His majesty
2. Muslims must avoid shirk and if they see anything powerful, they must understand that
Allah had created them.
3. They should not be inspired of the marvels of this world but their creator
Passage No. 4: Surah al Shura (42:4-5)
(a) This passage was revealed when some pagans made objections on Quranic revelations. Allah
mentioned that He is the Master of the whole universe thus has the right to reveal what He wishes.
Objections on revelations is a severe sin. There are angels in heavens that praise Allah and
intercede for those who are on earth. Because of their prayer Allah forgives these sinners. Allah
has created countless angels to glorify Him. They worship Him by day and night and never get
tired. Allah is oft-forgiving. It is His mercy that the world has not been destroyed. Quran mentions,
“If Allah had started punishing His slaves on account of their sins in this world only, you would
see that there had left no creation on this earth”.
1. These objects of the world compel the Muslims to admit His majesty
2. Muslims must avoid shirk and if they see anything powerful, they must understand that
Allah had created them.
3. They should not be inspired of the marvels of this world but their creator
(b) This passage remind us that as Allah has created the entire universe alone similarly He is
governing the system alone. So we should worship only Him, which is the sole purpose of our
creation. “And I created not jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me alone.” (51:56)
Like angels we should also seek Mercy and Forgiveness from Him because He is the Beneficent,
the Compassionate and His attribute of Mercifulness supersedes all other attributes. Allah is most
merciful. If any sin is committed by mistake, one should at once repent before Allah. Allah can
forgive all sins as He has said “Truly My mercy prevails My anger” (Hadith-e-Qudsi).
1. Muslims must believe in all of Allah’s revelation
2. They should not have any doubt or objection on verses
3. They must repent on their sins and should not become stubborn on sinning
Passage No. 5: Surah al Ikhlas (112)
(a) This has been given the name of Ikhlas, - means pure as it discusses the purity of Oneness of
Allah. It was revealed when the idolaters or the Jews asked the Holy Prophet (saw) to describe his
Lord to them. It states that He is unique in person and attributes. His entity is beyond our
perception. We cannot comprehend His Powers. Every one depends upon Him but He depends
upon no one. Nothing can be compared with Him. “No vision can grasp Him, but He grasps all
visions.”Allah is a being that is completely beyond human understanding. He is Unique in His
personality and His attributes are perfect and matchless.
1. Context: This Surah was revealed to answer the pagans who used to ask the Prophet
(saw) about the nature, age, and ancestry of his God.
2. It tells that He is one and unique
3. He does not have any ancestry as has no son or parents
4. He is beyond of materialistic existence
(b) This Surah teaches us to avoid all forms of shirk because shirk is the greatest of all sins. He
will forgive all other sins except the sin of ascribing partners to Him. Allah is the one on whom
every one depends but He is dependent upon none. So we should turn towards Him for all our
needs; great or small and worship Him only. This is one of the repeated theme of the Holy Quran.
“O mankind worship Allah only and ascribe no partner to Him.” Muslims must reject the Christians
belief of son-ship of Isa (as). This Surah is equal to 1/3rd of the Quran in reward”. This Surah is
recited with other Quls for protection.
1. Muslims must believe in Him only
2. They must not believe in any son or wife of Allah
3. They must not relate the human qualities to Him
4. This surah has been mentioned as one third of the Quran

Allah’s Messengers
Passage No. 11: Surah al Baqarah (2:30-37)
(a) This passage discusses Allah’s relations with Adam (as). He was the first Prophet and was
made the vicegerent of Allah on this earth. Allah honoured him by awarding knowledge and then
He asked the angels to prostrate before him. Iblis was a jinn but as he had worshipped Allah as
much as He had made him the leader of all angels. He refused to prostate because of pride. He said
“I am better than him. You created me out of fire and created him out of clay” (Q). That’s why
pride is considered as the first sin of the universe. Allah cursed him till the day of Judgement.
Satan swore to mislead the humanity from the right path. Allah banned a fruit upon Hazrat Adam
(a). Satan tempted him and his wife and made them eat the forbidden fruit and thus was exiled
from Paradise. Adam (a) sought forgiveness on his mistake and Allah forgave him.

(b) This passage teaches that the Muslims are the vicegerent of Allah on earth. They should
surrender themselves before Allah’s will to become His true vicegerent. This passage also
highlights the importance of Knowledge. Knowledge made Adam (a.s.) superior to the angels.
Acquiring the knowledge is a spiritual duty of every Muslim. So we must strive hard to seek the
knowledge which makes one closer to Allah. We are supposed to obey Allah and should avoid the
temptations of Satan. But in case if we have committed a sin because of the temptation of Satan,
we must repent at once as Allah is oft-forgiving. We should also notice that Satan and Adam (as)
both made mistake, but Satan became arrogant while Adam (a) sought repentance. So this is the
nature of human being that he feels guilty after committing a sin.
1. Muslims should be watchful of their deeds as their position in this world as Allah’s
Khalifa
2. They must pay attention to seeking of knowledge because they have been made
superior because of this.
3. They must avoid pride as it is a deadly sin

before they were given Prophethood like the Prophet Muhammad (saw) would pass many weeks
in cave Hira in search of his Creator. Similarly Hazrat Musa (as) would go to mount Tur anxiously
for receiving the revelations and to talk to Allah. The Prophets never associated partners to Allah.
They did not believe in the worldly objects. They called their people towards the oneness of Allah.
On their call, the people opposed them and tortured them.

look at these marvels and should ponder over them and inspire our hearts with the Creativity of
Allah. It is He alone who is running the entire system. Only He is Eternal and besides Him
everything shall perish. (Quran). We must not reject the powers of everything and worship Him
only.
1. Muslims should not believe in the objects
2. They should ponder over the objects of the world and try to understand Allah’s
greatness
3. They should realise they need to look to one God for their answers.
4. They must strive for strengthening their belief
Passage No. 13: Surah al Maidah (5:110)
(a) This passage is about Prophet Isa (as). Some of the Prophets were given miracles as the proof
of the divine support with them. Miracles were not the self-earned power of Prophets but were a
divine support. When they called their people towards Allah, they were opposed and tortured.
Some of them were even martyred in this cause. Here Allah reminds Isa (as) the miracles given to
him like his birth without father, his ability to speak in infancy, his curing of lepers and blinds any
many more He was sent to Bani Israil. The people instead of giving a positive response to his call,
tried to kill him but Allah saved him and elevated him upward the heavens. Muslims believe that

4. Prophets were opposed when they call the people towards the oneness of Allah
5. He protects His prophets as when the people tried to kill him, Allah lifted him above
the heavens alive.
(b) This passage reminds us that Allah is all powerful. Muslims should have firm belief in Him.
He can do anything. They must remember it while asking their needs from Him. They must believe
that Prophets were His chosen slaves. They should not consider them more than human beings
because of miracles. Muslims are also required to reject the Christians’ belief of son-ship of Hazrat
Isa (a.s). The passage also reminds us that those who are in the cause of Allah, they are opposed
but Allah helps them. So we should not lose our hearts on problems and afflictions in the way of
Islam.

3. They must believe that if they are in the cause of Allah, they will face the hardships
4. But then Allah will save them as he did with His Prophets
Passage No. 14: Surah al Duha (93)
(a) In the advent of Islam, the revelations stopped to give a rest period to the Prophet (saw). The
pagans started taunting the Prophet (saw) by saying that his Lord had forgotten him or had become
angry upon him. So in order to console the Prophet (s) Allah revealed this Surah. Alllah reminded
His favours upon him like the shelter given to him when he was orphan, his marriage with
Khadija(r) gave him financial support and the revelation of Quran guided him to the right path.
Besides these worldly favours he will be given more blessing in the hereafter. Like he will be
honoured with the biggest no of followers, he will intercede for the entire humanity, he will be the
first one to enter paradise. After reminding all this Allah ordered him to be good and kind to those
who are in need and should be grateful to Him on His bounties.

him

Allah’s other bounties and should be grateful to Him. “If you are grateful to Me, I shall increase
my blessings upon you.” (Q) We must believe that if Allah has deprived us from one blessing in
this world, He will give us too much in its compensation both in this world and the Hereafter.
Muslims are supposed to be good to the orphans and the needy. It is said by the Prophet (saw) that
he who fulfils one need of his brother, Allah will shower 73 blessings upon him. Only one of them
is sufficient for the needs of this world and the hereafter. And the he is elevated in paradise because
of the remaining 72 blessings.

4. They must be grateful to Him on His blessings both by words and practices (by helping
others)
Passage No. 15: Surah al Kausar (108)
(a) It is one of the early Surahs revealed at Makkah. It was revealed when two sons of the Prophet
(saw) died and Quraish were taunting him that he will be cut off his roots. It consoled him by
reminding him a number of favouring supports to him. The word Kausar is common in three
meanings 1. Plenty of blessing; it includes all kind of unbounded and limitless, physical and
spiritual wealth (benefits) and all the perceptible and imperceptible bounties and favours that were
to be given to the Holy Prophet (saw) 2. Fount of Kausar in paradise from which the he will quench
the thirst of believers. and 3. Hazrat Fatima (r) (according to Shia theology). Then he was told not

should believe in Allah’s promises. We must also understand the position and the status given to
the Holy Prophet (s). We must believe that those who oppose us, Allah will take revenge from
them.
