CHAPTER 2

This chapter presents the related literature and studies in


relation to the variable involve in the study. Mainly students
uses internet like source to get information for their use. There
are many studies to found in internet addiction among students or
in teenagers.

RELATED LETERATURE

Dumrique, and Castillo (2018), This study answers on the


significant relationship between playing online games to academic
performance and to social behavior of the students.It revealed
that boys are more of the player and playing online games do not
affect their grades badly,htry know how to limit themselves, how
to socialize and they can perform very well when it comes to
academic performance.

Andreassen, Billieux, Griffiths, Kuss, and Demotrovics


(2018), it is about the "addictive technological behaviors" has
substantially increased and it also demonstrated strong
associations between addictive use of technology and comorbid
psychiatric disorders. This study states that too much playing
online games and exposure to technology can affect the mental
health of the students that can cause psychiatric disorders.

Vlachopoulas and Makri (2017), this paper attempts to


systematically review the literature relevant to games and
simulation pedagogy in higher education. To achieve this aim,
innovative teaching methods are often deployed, including games
and simulations, which form the subject of this paper. States
that they focusing of higher education for preparation of future
professional and they illustrate that games and simulations has a
positive impact on the learning goals.

Johnston, Kebritchi, Evans and Hetlich,(2018) literature


exist that explores the influence of digital game based. This
scoping literature review explores how digital games can be used
in the educational environment to support the learning of
nontraditional students. This study says that games can be used
to engage various learning and how digital game-based influence
the non-traditional students.

Talabis and Ocampo (2017), This research determined which


among the risk factors is associated with the time spent playing
online games among the respondents, and which among the
associated risk factors predicts time spent online gaming the
most. Of all the four risk factors, narcissim is the only risk
factor that significantly associates with time spent playing
online games and it is the risk factor that predicts time spent
playing online games among respondents the most. This study
states that narcissism is the risk factor can affect their time
spent playing online games of the respondents.

RELATED STUDIES

Abbas (2017), Video game addiction is defined as impulse


control disorder, which does not involve use of an intoxicating
drug and is similar to pathological gambling. Also, it is
referred to video game overuse, pathological or compulsive use of
computer games and videogames (Greenfield & Young, 2009). A
study about the psychological factor, whether that is factor to
the online game addiction among students.

Robinson (2016), playing of online games is often associated


in our society with poor academic performance. This study help
students have an insight on the impact of online games toward
their academic performance.

Dockrill (2016), the positive effects of online gaming to


their academic performances in school. Says that online gaming
linked to improvements of the students in academic performances.
And it states that playing online games is like your solving
puzzle, it using some of the general knowledge and skills in
math, reading and science that they have been taught during the
day.

According to the research organization the date suggests


that playing video games can change the brain regions responsible
for attention and visuospatial skills and make them more
efficient and it also looked at studies exploring brain regions
associated with the reward system, and how these are related to
video game addiction.

Atoum (2015) “Internet Addiction and its Relation to Psychosocial


Adaptation among Jordanian High Basic Stage Students” this paper try
to identify the stages of internet needs between high basic stage
students (8th, 9th and 10th grades) in Jordan. They also found effect
of mental problems and other variables which related to internet use
which depend on internet addiction. They also found that the internet
is attractive, so many users suffer problems in psychosocial
adaptation . It was one of the correlated factors with isolation,
anxiety, depression, difficulty of focus and social problems in
general .Study also suggest that many studies stated that depression,
distraction, over activity, social anxiety, self-esteem and power of
motivation are the most predicting variables of internet addiction.
