CPU Socket

 A CPU socket is a mechanical connection that holds the CPU and allows it to communicate with
the motherboard. Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) sockets will have a leaver at the side that allows the
user to remove the CPU chip easier. They also contain a load plate that will hold the CPU in place,
allowing maximum contact with the heat sink.

CPU Fan and Heatsink Mount

 It is to make sure your computer doesn’t get too hot or too cold. It is to make sure your computer
doesn.t get too hot or too cold.

CPU Fan Connector

 on motherboards it a port that allows a fan to connect to it to cool a CPU/ Northbridge heatsink
in bios PC health menu it registers the speed of fan to make sure the CPU ain't to hot and fan
spinning maximum speed

DIMM Memory Slot

 provides the electrical connection between the RAM and the motherboard.

Super IO Chip

 A super I/O chip combines interfaces for a variety of low-bandwidth devices.

24-pin ATX Power Connector

 Connects to the 24-pin ATX power cable of a power supply unit which supplies power to the
motherboard

Floppy Drive Connector

 A floppy disk drive reads/writes data onto a small circular piece of metal-coated plastic. It’s an
electromechanical device that reads and writes floppy disks. A computer program may give an
instruction to the hardware so that a data file is written onto a floppy disk. Floppy drives do data
transfer, small file storage and backup, and it’s used for software installation and driver updates.

IDE Connector

 Connects to older hard drive disks and optical drives for data transfer.

SATA Connector

 Connects to modern hard disk drives, solid state drives and optical drives for data transfer

BIOS Flash Chip in PLCC Socket

 The BIOS chip contains the basic code needed to take your computer through the boot process,
up to the point where the operating system takes over. Since the BIOS code is stored on a
memory chip that needs constant power to function, a battery is also present to keep the chip
powered when the computer is unplugged.

South Bridge

 The Southbridge chip is used to handle all the communication between various input and output
devices. Both the north bridge and the south bridge together form a chipset for a motherboard.
The south bridge also makes use of the bus as a communication channel.

CMOS Backup Battery

 It is a memory chip that houses setting configurations and is powered by the onboard battery.
The CMOS is reset and loses all custom settings in case the battery runs out of energy, additionally,
the system clock resets when the CMOS loses power. The CMOS reverts to factory settings if it
doesn't get power from the battery.

North Bridge

 The Northbridge chip is used to connect all the major components of the motherboard with each
other. It is used to connect the CPU to the memory, cache, PCI express bus etc.

PCI Slot

 Is a connecting apparatus for a 32-bit computer bus. These tools are built into the motherboards
of computers and devices in order to allow for the addition of PCI devices like modems, network
hardware or sound and video cards.

Integrated Audio Codec Chip

 Is a Sound Card which is built in the motherboard for providing sound output.

Integrated Gigabit Ethernet Chip

 That an Ethernet port and and a LAN controller is integrated with your motherboard, and
connected directly to the PCI bus. Integrated gigabit ethernet is such an interface that comes in-
built with the motherboard of Personal Computer (PC).

PCI Express Slot

 It holds your CPU and chipset, and provides a common interface for other components of the
computer.

Back Panel

 A back panel connector comprises a first and a second housing, wherein said first housing
is provided with a bottom with an opening and four side walls upstanding from the
bottom and lying opposite each other two by two and wherein said second housing is
provided with four side walls lying opposite each other two by two.
