CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, description of respondents,

population frame and sampling technique, research instrument use and data

pathering procedures.

Research Method Use

The research employed the descriptive method of research since the study aims

to determine the effects of cyberbullying to the academic performance of

selected grade 12 students in Highway Hills Integrated School. Descriptive

research is a purposive process of gathering, analyzing, classifying and

tabulating data prevailing condition, practices, beliefs, process, trends, and

cause-effect relationships and then making adequate and accurate interpretation

about such as data with or without the laid of statistical methods.

Also, the research used to descriptive survey approach since the result of a

survey may be used for prediction. This especially true in correlation studies or

even in status studies.

For the instrument survey is otherwise known as normative survey. It is a fact-

finding study with adequate and accurate interpretation. It used to collect

demographic data about people’s behaviour, practice, intention, beliefs, attitudes,

opinions, judgement, interest, perceptions and the like and then such data are

analyzed, organized, and interpreted.

Population Frame and Sampling Scheme

There were 30 senior high school students who served as the respondents of the

study. All students are from senior high school students of Highway Hills

Integrated School. They were given questionnaire of Highway Hills Integrated

School.

The researchers used purposive sampling technique, a non-probability sampling

which one does not required any statistical determination of the sample scheme,

thus subject identified certain quota or number samples to be involved in the

study with the qualities proportionate of the study.

Description of the Respondents

The respondents are 30 senior high school students at Highway Hills Integrated

School SY 2019-2020. The demographic profiles of the respondents were

obtained for the purpose of providing a picture of the general features of the

sample group.

Instrument Used

The instrument was a researcher made questionnaire about the cyberbullying as

a factor affect academic performance of a students in Highway Hills Integrated

School in the individual selected grade 12 students of Highway Hills Integrated

School. The 24-item checklist questionnaire composed of 8 situations per

category was designed to assess the training program in a scale of 1 to 4, 1 is

being the highest and 4 is being the lowest.

The questionnaire consist of personal information and data for the training

program in which the respondents are respectfully asked to answer. The first

drafts of questionnaire checklist were submitted to the researchers adviser for

corrections and suggestion. Several changes were made some items not

considered relevant to the study were discarded and those which are need to be

indicated for the reliability of the study.

Data Gathering Procedure

Before the distribution of the researcher made questionnaire to the respondents,

the researchers had a communication letter signed by teacher of senior high

school to allow them to conduct a survey also, the researchers thoroughly

explained the instructions to the respondents to proper answer the questionnaire.

They personally distributed the questionnaire to the target respondents and no

time limit was served.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The following are the formulas used in the study.

1. Percentage Distribution

It is used to determine the demographic variables of the respondents in terms of

gender, parents/guardian status. The frequency is divided by the total number of

the respondents and multiplied by 30.
