Corrosion Rate Determination

Reference: API 510, 10th edition, 7.1.1

The long-term (LT) corrosion rate shall be calculated from the following formula:
tinitial - tactual
Corrosion rate (LT) =
time between tinitial and tactual (years)

The short-term (ST) corrosion rate shall be calculated from the following formula:
tprevious - tactual
Corrosion rate (ST) =
time between tprevious and tactual (years)

Corrosion Rate (LT) Corrosion Rate (ST)

date tinitial 0.413 date tprevious 0.5
date tactual 0.352 date tactual 0.4
interval (years) 5.0 interval (years) 1.000
Corrosion rate in/yr: 0.012 Corrosion rate in/yr: 0.100

Remaining Life Calculation

Reference: API 510, 10th edition 7.2.1

The remaining life of the vessel (in years) shall be calculated from the following formula:
tactual - trequired
Remaining life =
corrosion rate (ST)

Remaining Life 1/2 Remaining Life

tactual 0.4 Remaining life (years) 1.000
trequired
0.3 Years: 0.50
corrosion rate 0.100
Years: 1.00

The period between internal or on-stream inspections and thickness measurement inspections shall not exceed one-half the remaining life of the
vessel or 10 years, whichever is less (API 510, 10th edition, 6.5.1.1).

Each aboveground vessel shall be given a visual external inspection at an interval that does not exceed the the lesser of five years or the required
internal/on-stream inspection (API 510, 10th edition, 6.4.1).

Next inspection due date:February 9, 2015
