friend sent me this "Water Therapy" e-mail and I was curious to know who wrote it.

I
did a search and found it just as it appears below, but the source was unknown.
However, the Sanskrit name of the water treatment given in the article leads me to
believe it has its source in Ayur-Veda, the traditional medical science of India. (The
name given is "Usha (dawn or early morning) Paana (drink or in this case, water)
Chikitsa (treatment).

Interestingly, my internet search also revealed a somewhat similar modern water

therapy put forth by Dr. F. Batmanghelidj who has conducted research and written two
books on the subject. I will include some of the information about him, his books, and
his research at the end of this e-mail. So read on and see what you think. ----- David

How does pure water act?

------------------------

Consuming ordinary drinking water by the right method purifies human body. It renders
the colon more effective by forming new fresh blood, known in medical terms as
Haematopaises. That the mucousal folds of the colon and intestines are activated by
this method, is an undisputed fact, just as the theory that new fresh blood is produced
by the mucousal fold.

If the colon is cleaned then the nutrients of the food taken several times a day will be
absorbed and by the action of the mucousal folds they are turned into fresh blood.

The blood is all important in curing ailments and restoring health, and for this water
should be consumed in a regular pattern.

How to do this water therapy?

------------------------------

1) Early morning after you get up from bed (without even brushing your teeth) drink
1.50 litres of water i.e., 5 to 6 glasses. Better to premeasure 1.50 litres of water. Let us
all know that our ancestors termed this therapy as "Usha Paana Chikitsa".

2) Here it is very essential to note that nothing else - neither drinks nor solid food of
any sort - should be taken within 1 hour before and after drinking this 1.50 litres of
water.

3) It is also to be strictly observed that no Alcoholic drinks should be taken the

previous night.

4) If required, boiled and filtered water may be used for this purpose.

--------------------------------------------

Is it possible to drink 1.50 litres of water at one time?

1) To begin with, one may find it difficult to drink 1.50 litres of water at one time, but one
will get used to it gradually.
Initially, while practising you may drink four glasses first and the balance two glasses
after a gap of two minutes.

Initially you may find the necessity to urinate 2 to 3 times within an hour, but it will
become normal after sometime.

By research and experience, the following diseases are observed to be cured with this
therapy within the indicated days as below

Constipation 1 day

Acidity 2 days

Diabetes 7 days

BP & Hypertension 4 weeks

Cancer 4 weeks

Pulmonary TB 3 months

-------

Note:

It is advised that persons suffering from Arthritis or Rheumatism should practise this
therapy thrice a day, i.e., morning, midday and night, 1 hour before meals - for one
week; and twice a day subsequently till the disease is cured.

Modern Research

Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D. is a formally trained medical doctor who received his
medical education and training at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School of London
University. He has spent most of his scientific life researching the link between pain and
disease and chronic dehydration.

Dr. Batmanghelidj discovered the healing powers of water 17 years ago when he was
serving time as a political prisoner in an Iranian jail. He successfully treated 3,000 fellow
prisoners suffering from stress induced peptic ulcer disease with the only medication he
possessed water. This is when he understood for the first time in medical history
that the body indicates its water shortage by producing pain.

Since his prison experience, he has focused his full time attention on dehydration
produced health problems in the body. His discovery has helped hundreds of thousands
of people suffering from a variety of pains and degenerative diseases regain their
health.

Dr. Batmanghelidj has presented his findings at several international and world
conferences, and they have been published and peer reviewed in a number of scientific
journals. His findings are now available to the public in an easy to understand form in
his two books, Your Body's Many Cries for Water, and How to Deal with Back Pain and
Rheumatoid Joint Pain, and his video on back pain and audio tape of his lectures.
These health education materials have been peer and media reviewed and acclaimed
both nationally and internationally.

---------------------------------------------------------
"Your Body's Many Cries for Water"
new book by Dr. F. Batmanghelidj

Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, 66, was trained at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in
London. His extensive clinical and scientific research shows how the body naturally
generates different thirst signals, but that these can be mistaken for symptoms and
signs of illness. Recognizing them for what they are, he says, means that we can enjoy
better health and avoid costly mistakes.

"Since the water we drink provides for cell function and its volume requirements, the
decrease in our daily water intake affects the efficiency of cell activity. (...) As a
result, chronic dehydration causes symptoms that equal disease when the variety
of emergency signals of dehydration are not understood." (p.14)

"The human body has a major problem with its normal water regulation, caused by a
gradual loss of thirst sensation. This problem is confronted often enough in clinical
practice that it does not need explanation. However, The Lancet editorial of 3 November
1984 and the 20 September 1984 article by Paddy Phillips [should] remove any doubt
on the issue." (p.140)

"Humans seems to lose their thirst sensation and the critical perception of needing
water. Not recognizing their need for water, they gradually become increasingly and
chronically dehydrated with the progress of age. Further confusion lies in the idea that
when we're thirsty, we can substitute tea, coffee, or alcohol containing beverages. This
is a common error." (p.14)

"Not recognizing the thirst signals of the body will undoubtedly produce complicated
problems in the present way of treatment of these conditions. It is all too easy to
assume these signals are complications of a serious disease process and begin to treat
signal producing dehydration with complicated procedures. Although water by itself will
alleviate the condition, medications or invasive diagnostic procedures may be forced on
the person. It is the responsibility of both patients and their doctors to be aware of the
damage that chronic dehydration can cause in the human body." (p.18)

"These chronic pains include dyspeptic pain, rheumatoid arthritis pain, angina pain
(heart pain on walking, or even at rest), migraine and hangover headaches, colitis pain
and its associated constipation. The "view shift" dictates that all these pains should be
treated with a regular adjustment to daily water intake. No less than two and a half
quarts (two and one half litres) in 24 hours should be taken for a few days prior to the
routine and regular use of analgesics or other pain relieving medications." (p.19)

"If the problem has persisted for many years, those who wish to test the pain relieving
property of water should make sure their kidneys can make sufficient urine so that they
do not retain too much water in the body. Urine output should be measured against
water intake. With an increase in water intake, the urine output should also increase."
(p.19)

How much water?

"Your body needs an absolute minimum of six 8 ounce glasses of water a day. [ 8
ounces is equivalent to app. 2,25 deciliter ] Alcohol, coffee, tea, and caffeine containing
beverages don't count as water. The best times to drink water (clinically observed in
peptic ulcer disease) are: one glass one half hour before taking food breakfast, lunch,
and dinner and a similar amount two and one half hours after each meal. This is the
very minimum amount of water your body needs. For the sake of not shortchanging
your body, two more glasses of water should be taken around the heaviest meal or
before going to bed. Thirst should be satisfied at all times. With increase in water intake,
the thirst mechanism becomes more efficient. Your body might then ask you to drink
more than the above minimum. Adjusting water intake to mealtimes prevents the blood
from becoming concentrated as a result of food intake. When the blood becomes
concentrated, it draws water from the cells around it. Water is the cheapest form of
medicine to a dehydrated body. (...) There is more natural magic in a glass of water
than any medication you are brainwashed to use for the treatment of the conditions I
have explained in this book. And I do not sell water!" (p.127)

Salt
"Salt is an essential ingredient of the body. In their order of importance, oxygen, water,
salt and potassium are the primary elements for the survival of the human body. (...)
The precaution to keep in mind is loss of salt from the body when water intake is
increased and salt intake is not. After a few days of taking six or eight or ten glasses of
water a day, you should begin to think of adding some salt to your diet. If you begin to
feel muscle cramps at night, remember you are becoming salt deficient. Cramps in
unexercised muscles most often means salt shortage in the body. Also, dizziness and
feeling faint might be indicators of salt and water shortage in the body. If such occasions
arise, you should also begin to increase your vitamins and minerals intake, including
vegetables and fruits for their water soluble vitamin and mineral content. I have
developed a rule of thumb for daily salt intake. For every ten glasses of water (about
two quarts), one should add to the diet about half a teaspoon of salt per day. An
average teaspoon can contain six grammes of salt." (p.135, 136)

---------------------
AMAZING SECRETS FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Cure # 1: Water prevents and cures heartburn. Heartburn is a signal of water shortage
in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a major thirst signal of the human
body. The use of antacids or tablet medications in the treatment of this pain does not
correct dehydration, and the body continues to suffer as a result of its water shortage.
Tragedy: Not recognizing heartburn as a sign of dehydration and treating it with
antacids and pill medications will, in time, produce inflammation of the stomach,
duodenum, hiatal hernia, ulceration, and eventually cancers in the gastrointestinal tract,
including the liver and pancreas.

Cure # 2: Water prevents and cures arthritis. Rheumatoid Joint Pain Arthritis is a signal
of water shortage in the painful joint. It can affect the young as well as the old. The use
of painkillers does not cure the problem, but exposes the person to further damage from
pain medications. Intake of water and small amounts of salt will cure this problem.

Cure # 3: Water prevents and cures back pain. Low Back Pain and Ankylosing Arthritis
of the Spine are signs of water shortage in the spinal column and discs the water
cushions that support the weight of the body. These conditions should be treated with
increased water intake - not a commercial treatment, but a very effective one. Tragedy:
Not recognizing arthritis and low back pain as signs of dehydration in the joint cavities
and treating them with painkillers, manipulation, acupuncture, and eventually surgery
will, in time, produce osteoarthritis when the cartilage cells in the joints have eventually
all died. It will produce deformity of the spine. It will produce crippling deformities of the
limbs. Pain medications have their own life threatening complications.

Cure # 4: Water prevents and cures angina. Heart Pain Angina is a sign of water
shortage in the heart/lung axis. It should be treated with increased water intake until the
patient is free of pain and independent of medications. Medical supervision is prudent.
However, increased water intake is angina's cure.

Cure # 5: Water prevents and cures migraines. Migraine Headache is a sign of water
need by the brain and the eyes. It will totally clear up by preventing dehydration from
establishing in the body. This particular type of dehydration might eventually cause
inflammation of the back of the eye and possibly loss of eye sight.

Cure #6: Water prevents and cures colitis. Colitis Pain is a signal of water shortage in
the large gut. It is associated with constipation because the large intestine constricts to
squeeze the last drop of water from the excrements thus the lack of water lubrication.
Tragedy: Not recognizing colitis pain as a sign of dehydration will cause persistent
constipation. Later in life, it will cause fecal impacting: it can cause diverticulitis,
hemorrhoids, polyps, and appreciably increases the possibility of developing
cancers of the colon and rectum.

Cure # 7: Water and salt prevents and cures asthma. Asthma, which also affects
12,000,000 children and kills several thousand of them every year, is a complication of
dehydration in the body. It is caused by the drought management programs of the body.
Free passage of air is obstructed so that water does not leave the body in the form of
vapor, the winter steam. Increased water intake will prevent asthma attacks. Asthmatics
need also to take more salt to break the mucus plugs in the lungs which obstruct the
free flow of air in and out of the air sacs. Tragedy: Not recognizing asthma as the
indicator of dehydration in the body of a growing child not only will sentence many
thousands of children to die every year, but will permit irreversible genetic damage to
establish in the remaining 12,000,000 asthmatic children.

Cure # 8: Water prevents and cures high blood pressure. Hypertension is a state of
adaptation of the body to a generalized drought, when there is not enough water to fill
all the blood vessels which diffuse water into vital cells. As part of the mechanism of
reverse osmosis, when water from the serum is filtered and injected into important cells
through minute holes in their membranes, extra pressure is needed for the "injection
process." Just as we inject I.V. "water" in hospitals, so the body injects water into tens of
trillions of cells all at the same time. Water and some salt intake will bring blood
pressure back to normal! Tragedy: Not recognizing hypertension as one of the major
indicators of dehydration in the human body, and treating it with diuretics that further
dehydrate the body will, in time, cause blockage by cholesterol of the heart arteries and
the arteries that go to the brain. It will cause heart attacks, small and/or massive strokes
that paralyze. It will eventually cause kidney diseases. It will cause brain damage and
neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease.

Cure # 9: Water prevents and cures early adult onset diabetes. Adult Onset Diabetes is
another adaptive state to severe dehydration of the human body. To have adequate
water in circulation and for the brain's priority water needs, the release of insulin is
inhibited to prevent insulin from pushing water into all body cells. In diabetes only some
cells get survival rations of water. Water and some salt will reverse adult onset diabetes
in its early stages. Tragedy: Not recognizing adult onset diabetes as a complication of
dehydration will, in time, cause massive damage to the blood vessels all over the body.
It will cause eventual loss of the toes, feet and legs from gangrene. It will cause eye
damage, even blindness.

Cure # 10: Water lowers blood cholesterol. High Cholesterol levels are an indicator of
early drought management by the body. Cholesterol is a claylike material that is poured
in the gaps of some cell membranes to safeguard them from losing their vital water
content to the osmotically more powerful blood circulating in their vicinity. Cholesterol,
apart from being used to manufacture nerve cell membranes and hormones, is also
used as a "shield" against water taxation of other vital cells that would normally
exchange water through their cell membranes.

Cure # 11: Water Cures Depression, Loss of Libido, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lupus,
Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy. These conditions are caused by prolonged
chronic dehydration. They will clear up once the body becomes well and regularly
hydrated. In these conditions, exercising one's muscles should be part of the treatment
program .

So here's to your health.

Cheers!!!

Glug . . . . . . . . . . Glug . . . . . . . . . Glug . . . . .!

As you well know, if you make the blood thicker it has a more difficult time moving
through the blood vessels, and this in turn increases your risk of heart attack and
stroke. In one study researchers evaluated the water-drinking habits of 34,000 Seventh
Day Adventists over a six-year period. They discovered that these individuals
dramatically reduced their risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke simply by drinking
at least five glasses of water a day. Increasing fluids other than water didn't have any
positive effect whatsoever. (Family Prac News Oct,98:1-2)
- Dr. David Williams Health Dispatch September 29, 2003.

In the chapter on the COLON we saw how the standard indigestible American diet
packs layer upon layer of plaque onto the inner lining of the colon. One of the prime
functions of the colon is to reabsorb water, in order to prevent dehydration. Plaque
prevents such a reclamation, and the result is that we lose both water and minerals
that normally should be reabsorbed. - Dr. Tim O'Shea

From Dr. Robert Jay Rowen's Second Opinion April 2002.

Cure Your Hypertension

One of the main problems with conventional therapy is it does not address the cause of
elevated blood pressure. It just treats the symptoms. Years ago, articles appeared
clearly showing the introduction of sodium (salt) into the endothelium (the inner lining of
the blood vessels) as the principle factor in the development of hypertension. Salt, and
the water it carries, was shown to be a major underlying force in the swelling of the
vascular lining, which would require greater pressure (hypertension) to pump blood
through the swollen vascular system. And none of the prescription blood pressure pills
treats this cause.

As I mentioned earlier, there's a simple treatment that's extremely effective, doesn't use
drugs, and promises to get millions of people off these destructive pills. In fact, what
you are about to read is so deadly to the establishment, that despite its incredibly
profound truth and faultless methodology, major medical journals refused to publish this
data. Why? Because it would cost the drug companies, which advertise in these
journals, billions of dollars. And that's no exaggeration!

Alan Goldhammer, DC of True North Health, in Rohnert Park, California, took in 174
self-referred adults, each admitted for in-patient care of hypertension and other
problems over a 12-year period from 1985-1997.

In order to participate in the study, patients had to have a systolic BP of at least 140,
and a diastolic BP of at least 90, or both. The initial BP average for the group was
159.1/89.2 and the average weight was 78.4kg (approximately 210 lbs) with body mass
index of 29.

The water-only fast was administered for periods ranging from four to 28 days. The only
intake was distilled water (minimum of 40 ox daily). The patients' physical activity was
limited, as it can cause significant energy expenditure (this can be dangerous without
food to replace the lost energy). Electrolytes and other blood parameters were also
carefully monitored, and researchers followed all accepted protocols for fasting.

The results of this study were nothing less than phenomenal! The average BP of the
group dropped to 127.4/77.7, and to an astounding 121.9/75.7 after the physicians
slowly re-introduced food. At the same time, body weight dropped an average of 12.1
pounds, and body mass index dropped from 28.7 to 26.5. The biggest surprise was that
the worst cases of hypertension actually saw the biggest reductions in their BP! The
worse the hypertension, the greater the correction. An amazing 89 percent of the
subjects became normal! The final average BP of the entire group was 117.5/78.7.

All patients on anti-hypertensive medication at the onset of the treatments were off their
drugs by the conclusion of the fast!

You would think that hunger would be a major problem for the patients, but after the
second or third day, your body naturally dulls the hunger sensation. And even better,
there were no complications reported at any time in the study except for occasional mild
nausea and temporary low blood pressure.

At the time of the published report, the researchers had followed up on 42 of the 174
original subjects over a period of 27 weeks after discharge. The average BP was
123/77 in these 42, suggesting these results are either permanent or sustainable for
many months.

Folks, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see why several big-time medical
journals refused publication of this data. It strikes a silver stake into the heart of all the
pharmaceutical precepts of hypertension treatment.

This therapy is so effective, it more than doubled the results of our best therapy to date,
and fixed the problem at the source!

Dr. Goldhammer adds that those individuals who have adhered to a vegan follow-up
diet have remained free from hypertension for as long as he has followed them. He
feels that the addition of small amounts of fresh fish or fowl, up to three ounces twice a
week, does not have any adverse effects in the maintenance of normal blood pressure,
once corrected. I think you could probably add a few ounces of grass-fed beef, as well.

Action to Take

(1) I do believe in fasting, having repeatedly seen dramatic results over many
years. However, I do not, under any circumstances recommend a lengthy (more than
one day), unsupervised water fast. I've watched people do fresh juice fasting with ease
and never a problem, often for two or three weeks. Juices contain minerals and
vitamins, which sharply reduce mineral imbalances, which could occur during a
prolonged water fast. A terrific book on the subject is How to Keep Slim, Healthy, and
Young with Juice Fasting by Paavo Airola.

(2) If your blood pressure is higher than 160/100, I suggest a supervised water fast,
such as the program run by the study's authors or those well trained in water fasting. I
will admit, a water fast does not sound pleasant. However, the thought of hypertension
complications is far less appealing.

(3) If fasting causes your blood pressure to drop, make sure you work with your doctor
to reduce your drug dependence.

(4) If you don't currently suffer from high blood pressure, a periodic one-day juice fast
will help prevent this deadly problem. Once or twice a month should be plenty. I also
think simply adding more water to your diet will help considerably.

Hypertension is not a lifetime disease, as the medical pundits would have you believe.
It's a reversible disorder, brought on by a bad diet, lack of exercise, stress, and a
modern "civilized" lifestyle. There are many other treatments you can add to this
therapy to further ensure your health. I'll be reporting on these in future issues.

For more information on water fasting, please contact True North Health at 6010

major contract from a large Bay area labor union to treat members with this program.
The union believes that paying for the program for members will dramatically improve
their health and reduce long-term health costs by curing hypertension. It can do the
same for you!

Excess Salt and the Kidneys

The above article regarding using a water fast to remove excessive sodium from the
tissues thereby relieving hypertension highlights the problem our kidneys have when
we consume too much salt. To further understand the situation we draw upon the
information found at http://www.luminet.net/~wenonah/riddick/chap22.htm

TABLE NO. 24

Range Average

1.) Water Input, Liquid +

1.5–3.0 (say) 2.0
Foodstuffs (liters)
a) Drink, about 50% — 1.0
b) Food, about 50% — 1.0

2.) Water Output, liters

a) Insensible and vaporization 1.0–1.20 1.1
b) Urine 0.80–1.00 0.9
Ave. 2.0

3.) Input and output of

Mineral Salts
a) Sodium Chloride 5–14.5 9.7
b) Potassium (as chloride) 3.7–11.2 7.4
c) Miscellaneous-say — 0.9
Total 18.0

The above table suggests that the average person consumes about 2 litres of water a
day, with half of this coming from drink and the other half from food. What happens to
this water? The next section of the table suggests that about half (1 litre) disappears in
the sweat and out the lungs, while the other half (about 1 litre) is excreted in the urine.

What would happen if a person drank an extra litre of water daily? Assuming that the
water lost via the sweat and lungs is relatively constant, ALL of the extra fluid
consumed will be excreted via the urine. The amount of water removed from the body
via the kidneys and bladder is doubled. This is very significant to the kidneys as we
shall see.

The third section of the table considers mineral salts. The main mineral salt we
consume is sodium chloride (table salt) closely followed by potassium which is found in
fruits and vegetables and their juices. (It is important to the body that sodium and
potassium be consumed in the appropriate balance.) If the body requires the minerals
then there is no problem. If the minerals are surplus to the needs of the body, as is the
case with excess sodium chloride in the "Cure Your Hypertension" article above, then
the surplus mineral salts need to be removed from the body by the kidneys.

When the kidneys are filtering mineral salts out of the blood they create a
concentration gradient. The concentration of mineral salts within the kidneys is greater
than the concentration in the blood. This concentration gradient is opposed by osmotic
pressure that wants to equalize the concentration of mineral salts on both sides of the
kidney membrane.

The more salt the kidneys must remove from the blood, the greater the concentration
of salt within the kidneys, and the greater the concentration gradient between the
inside of the kidneys and the blood. When the concentration of salt within the kidneys
is double that of the blood the concentration gradient is 1:2. It might even get as high
as 1:3. As the concentration gradient increases, the kidneys need to work harder and
harder to overcome osmotic pressure. Eventually the kidneys reach a limit where they
can increase the concentration gradient no further. What happens then? As we saw in
the article "Cure Your Hypertension", the excess salt moves into other tissues and
causes problems there.

What happens if we drink more water? As shown in the table above, drinking an extra
litre of water will DOUBLE urine output. This reduces the salt concentration gradient
within the kidneys by HALF. With a lower concentration gradient the kidneys will be
able to extract more surplus salt from the blood, eventually allowing the tissues to be
cleansed. (Increasing the zeta potential should also help cleanse the tissues).

So if there are excess mineral salts and other substances stored in the body that the
kidneys should be able to remove, this analysis suggests a reason why it is there and
how it can be dealt with. Our choices are: stop eating so much of the offending
substance, drink more water, raise our zeta potential or all three.

***

Cancer patients generally have too much sodium relative to potassium. The above
articles indicate why the body may contain too much sodium and how it can be
removed. Drinking more fluids may help restore a proper sodium/potassium
balance in the body, which is highly beneficial to cancer patients.

Healthy Oils for Healthy Kidneys

The fine filter systems in the kidneys consist of extremely thin membranes. To function
properly these membranes need ahealthy balance of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty
acids plus saturated fats such as are found in coconut oil. See "Saturated Fats and the
Kidneys".
