MODULE
IN
SCIENCE 6
Second Quarter

Written by:

CARLA ANNABELLE S. TOLENTINO

Teacher 1
INTRODUCTION

Science is one of the major subjects taught in school and one of the most
challenging learning areas for pupils especially for Grade Six pupils who find it
very interesting and exciting in exploring and discovering facts.

This module is written for pupils who find the subject hard and boring due
to their slowness in learning the concept. To avoid this hindrance of learning,
module was introduced to cover up pupils’ anxiousness about the subject.

Different exercises are provided in this module for them to further

understand the lesson about the functions of the organs of Respiratory System
and how it works.

Module is a tool used to uplift the performance of pupils in Science. It is a

form of remediation or intervention for those who hardly understand the
concept of a specific lesson. It is another approach in clarifying the details
more about a concept and further develops the different skills in Science. This
also serves as a guide for teachers.

TO THE LEARNER

Man needs air to breathe. Breathing is the process of getting oxygen and
expelling carbon dioxide. Our body performs this breathing cycle that involves
inhalation or taking in air, and exhalation or getting out the air.

In this module, you will learn about the different parts of the body that
help in breathing process.

LET’S REMEMBER THIS

 Read and understand the content of the module.

 Follow the directions and answer the activities correctly.
 Answer all the questions in your answer sheet.
CONTENT STANDARD:

The learners demonstrate understanding of how the major organs of the

human body work together to form organ systems.

PERFORMANCE TASK:

The learners should be able to make a chart showing healthful habits that

promote proper functioning of the musculo-skeletal, integumentary, digestive,

circulatory, excretory, respiratory, and nervous systems.

LEARNING COMPETENCY:

 Explain how the organs of each organ system work together. S6LTIIa-b-1

 Identify and describe the functions of the organs of Respiratory

System and how it works. S6LTIIa-b-1.4.1

LESSON:

Functions of the Organs of Respiratory System and how it works

LET’S LEARN THIS

The Human Respiratory System helps you to inhale and exhale. It enables

the body to take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide and moisture. It includes

the Nose, Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Bronchi, Bronchioles, Alveoli,

Lungs and Diaphragm. Through these parts we survive and sustain our lives.

LET’S DO THIS

Directions: Match the organs of the respiratory system to their functions. Write
your answer on the blank.

1. Lungs A. The part that warms and

moistens the air, traps dust
2. Nasal Cavity and dirt in the inhaled air

3. Trachea B. It serves as a passageway for

both food and air.
4. Larynx
C. It is also called the voice box
5. Pharynx that contains the vocal cords.

D. It is also called the windpipe.

E. The main respiratory organs

located in the chest cavity
LET’S DO MORE

Color the circle Red if the statement is correct and Black if it is wrong.

1. The body system that helps you inhale and exhale is called Respiratory

System.

2. The pharynx is the voice box, while the larynx is the throat.

3. Trachea allows you to breathe in and breathe out.

4. Lung is the main organ of the respiratory system.

5. Trachea is also known as windpipe.

6. Air enters the nose from the outside through nasal cavity.

7. When you inhale, the diaphragm, or the strong bow – shaped sheet of

muscle between the chest and the abdomen, stretches down.

8. The act of taking in air is called exhalation.

9. Bronchi are tubes that direct air into the right and left lungs.

10. We can live without oxygen

LET’S TEST OURSELVES

Directions: Write FACT if the statement is True and BLUFF if the statement is False.

1. The Respiratory System is responsible in transporting blood, oxygen

and food nutrients throughout the body.

2. Each bronchioles ends in very tiny air sacs called Alveoli.

3. The heart is the main organ of the respiratory system.

4. From the nasal cavity, the clean, warm, moist air passes through the

pharynx.

5. Respiratory system consists of different organs which work together

to enable the body work efficiently.

All human and animals need 1. _______________________ to make energy

from food. We get this oxygen from the air that we breathe. In order to get the

oxygen into the blood where it can be transported to the rest of the body, the

air travels through a system of organs called the 2. _____________________system.

9. _______________________.

In the lungs oxygen from the air enters the blood. At the same time, the

waste gas carbon dioxide leaves the blood and then leaves the body when you

exhale. Some water vapor also leaves the body when you exhale, which is why

mirrors get foggy when you breathe on them. The 10. _________________________

is the muscle that controls the lungs and allows you to breathe in and breathe

out.
