CMA Accelerated Program

Are you looking for a quick start to obtaining the CMA designation?
Then the CMA Accelerated Program is the right program for you. Upon successfully completing this
intensive, nine month, part-time program, you will be qualified to write the CMA National Entrance Exam.

Overview
The CMA Accelerated Program is an intensive nine month course
offered every January and September which prepares students to
write the CMA National Entrance Exam. Successful completion of Obtain your undergraduate degree,

following the program.

The CMA Accelerated Program reviews concepts in the topic areas

would take one and a half years of full time study at a post-secondary

from their undergraduate education, or who have a non-business
education. This program also benefits those individuals who have not
taken accounting/finance courses for some time and require updating
of their knowledge in this field.

Options for Completing the
CMA Accelerated Program
In order to accommodate working students, CMA British
Columbia offers a choice of in-class, distance education
and self-study options.
In-Class and Distance Education:
The in-class program is offered two evenings per week
in Vancouver. Classes typically run from 6:30 to 9:30PM.
For the September intake of the CMA Accelerated
Program, there is also a Saturday class option, held
from 9:30AM to 4:30PM in Surrey.
The distance program is offered two evenings per
week online, classes typically run from 6:30 to 8:30PM.
Students are required to be online and attend classes.
These classes are live interactive sessions where
students are able to see and hear their instructor’s
lessons and are able to pose questions about any of
the syllabus material.
Self-Study:
The CMA Accelerated Program self-study option covers
the same material as both the in-class and distance
education programs and prepares you to write the CMA
National Entrance Exam. This eight month program is
covered in 22 weeks of lessons and involves self-study
coverage of the syllabus material. Students access this
material through an Accelerated Program website and
receive instructional DVD’s for each session. Online
instructor support through the Accelerated Program
website is offered for any questions you may have
about lessons, quizzes, or exams.
The CMA self-study option can be a good alternative
for those who wish to work on a self-study basis or are
unable to attend weekly scheduled sessions.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible to enroll in the CMA Accelerated Program,
students must possess a university undergraduate
degree and have successfully completed the following
four prerequisites:
• Introductory Financial Accounting
• Introductory Management Accounting
• Economics*
• Quantitative Methods*
Students must achieve a minimum grade of 60% (C)
in each.
The prerequisite courses can be completed at any
college or university in BC or Canada. For more detail
on which college and university courses are equivalent
to the four prerequisite courses, please review the
CMA Advanced Standing Guide at cmabc.com. Another
option for completing these courses is the new CMA
QuickStart. More details are provided below.
* CMA British Columbia does not administer examinations for these
topics; students are given credit for the topic upon purchase of the
self-study guide, and it is the responsibility of the student to study
and ensure comprehension of the material.
CMA QuickStart
The new CMA QuickStart courses allow students to
qualify for the CMA Accelerated Program in half the
time of standard college/university courses. These
compressed or “quick” courses provide comprehensive
coverage of introductory financial accounting and
introductory management accounting in seven weeks
each. Enrollment in CMA QuickStart also includes the
Economics and Quantitative self-study guides described

Getting Started
Send us your Transcripts
Complete the transcript evaluation form included (also
available at cmabc.com) with this brochure and request
official transcripts to be sent from your post-secondary
institution to:

The transcripts must be original documents issued by
a post secondary institution in a sealed envelope. If
you were educated outside of Canada, you will need
the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES)
to evaluate your transcripts. ICES application packages
are available from us or online at www.bcit.ca/ices.
Applicants are responsible for ICES evaluation fees.
If you’re eligible for the program, we will send you a
letter requesting you to complete the CMA Accelerated
Program Application Form, CMA Student Membership
Application Form, and payment for all applicable fees. If
you’re not eligible for the CMA Accelerated Program at
this time, we’ll outline some options for you to proceed
with the CMA accreditation process.
